Hopefully trade will balance a bit more as Chinese wages increase. 1st world manufacturing except perhaps in Germany has been wiped out by the Walmart/China complex. Certainly paying higher prices for goods made domestically and employing your own people would be a good thing in the long run. Globalization has really only made CEOs rich and hurt workers. Of course it allows every trailer park dweller to have a flat panel tv but is that a good thing?

I don't each much beef so when I do it's more as a treat. That being said I always go for Japanese beef preferably Matsuzaka Gyu. I suppose if I consumed a large amount of beef I'd go Australian for the price and lower fat content but it's not even in the same league for taste.

Sorry but good on her. The current crop of kids has no respect for the elderly or anyone else. That'll teach the little punk to give up his seat. By the way, since when is 60 years old elderly?

Klein: Thanks for the info, I was a little curious about what laws she actually broke. By the way considering nude photos of an 18 year old child porn is pretty insane. At the end of the day this is a stupid case and the police would better serve the public by concentrating on actual crimes that harm people.

Nope he couldn't give him a pass and I find it odd that McChrystal's aids had such loose lips. My guess is he was so frustrated he may have done this to make the news and get out of the job while exposing the incompetence of the administration. "Biden... Bite Me" That's a sentiment I can agree with.

Yeah, leaflets will definitely persuade the North Koreans to leave the cult of Kim. In our lifetime I doubt you will ever see a democratic North Korea.

Well Sassa san is a racist but at least he likes my brand of Gaijin. I say give permanent residents in local if not national elections because they live here and pay taxes here. Permanent residents own property and businesses and have just as much concern for what goes on in there towns and prefectures.

Sushi: I don't dispute that America needs to reduce its reliance on oil but cap and trade is not the way to do it. Why do you think Mr. Inconvenient Truth is such a fan? Certain people stand to make billions from a scheme that will not end oil dependence but merely raise the cost of energy for everyone. In addition any costs that manufacturers pay get passed along. In the end it's just another way to further degrade average (read non-wealthy) people's standard of living. Who pays for it in the end? Hint the same people who always do the poor and middle class. If you want to end America's dependence on oil then the government needs to fund research to make that happen. Wind and solar aren't going to cut it. Building nuclear plants and making viable electric cars should be the first step while we develop other technologies.

Mr. Burns is right on the money, Kindergarten and Elementary are very good here. Jr and Highschool is why you see all the suicides. We are moving back to the US before then. I pledged to my wife that I would never allow our children to attend a Japanese High School.

Did anyone notice he used this tragedy to push cap and trade? Obama won't stop until he bankrupts the country. As for his being tough with BP, well short of laying a lawsuit that will take 20 years to settle he is at the mercy of their good humor.

Well I'm happy to see Japan grow a backbone but couldn't it be over something more useful. Withdrawing from the IWC will just bring international condemnation.

Yeah Australia, tilting at windmills. How does the ICJ have any jurisdiction when this is a matter for the IWC which both Australia and Japan belong to. For the record I like Peter Garret singing better than flapping his gums about whaling.

I don't want to sound too radical here but I personally hope that NK caries things to another war. This time I doubt China would add as much material support as they did in the Korean war and we can finally finish off crazy Kim and his goons.

Um, all of the Kanji = not in my lifetime. The mandate is essentially that they know all of the Kanji which I would go so far as to say no average Japanese citizen knows. This whole language test is set up to assure failure. 257 took a test and 3 passed means the test is structured to fail.
