Are you guys serious? There isn't going to be a war with Taiwan even if Ma wants closer ties with China. Japan and Taiwan are allies and major trading partners, this is just a small bump in the road.

I'd say downtown Chicago the burbs are as bland and faceless as anywhere and you don't need to interact with people very often so rudeness doesn't apply as much. Maybe I'm jaded because it's home.
