If the wreck topples of the cliff where it is currently balancing, and falls 110 metres to the bottom of the sea, it would mean death for every diver in the wreck, and most of the surface workers. The sudden pressurization, the need for a totally different gas mixture at that depth, and the prolonged decompression time for anyone to make it to the surface would be virtually impossible to manage. That also assumes that the ship itself did not crush or distort, and people were not injured by debris and the ship's structure. I've dived in wrecks, even new ones, and know firsthand how dirty they are inside; the sharp edges and fittings that can cut you open or snag your life line. It's not like Hollywood with bright lights and clean water...

The electricity comes from the generator, and is distributed through a grid with relays, transformers and the like. Everything else is just an energy source to produce steam to turn the turbines; or in the case of wind, water and tidal power, to turn the turbines directly or via gearing.
PS: Have never seen a collector for static electricity at any airport in Japan. Perhaps it is discharged when the fingerprints are taken?

It seems that more and more people, especially older people or those with fimpaired eyesight, print out those beautiful pdf manuals and documents, as they cannot read them comfortably on computer or device screens...
Try and bokmark a few pages, have more than 3 or 4 windows open at the same time, and it is easy to lose track of where you are...

I wonder did the banks behind Olympus encourage the banks behind Fujifilm to do this? One of Fujifilm's outside auditors is a director of both Sumitomo Mitsu Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG). SMBC are also a major shareholder of Olympus, while SMFG is their main lender.
Classic way protecting their assets...

Compare this to the Iwo-to situation (formerly Iwo Jima), where the government have sent around 5~10 bureaucrats to supervise a team of 50 contractors, looking for remains of troops killed more than 60 years ago. They may find some bones in the dry sand, and some material that may help identify them.
Much harder in the sea, where after an initial period of 'floating', the bodies wil burst, decompose or be fed upon, and as the bones get saturated with water, sink to the bottom. However, if traumatised from the physical impact of the tsunami, and lost their integrity, they'll not even float.
As for diving, 'frogmen' in a decent dry suit can easily spend an hour in the water in winter at a shallow depth; I do!

@zichi - don't hold your breath! You'll have to look for the small print in the publication...

@zichi - to be fair, that report was published in January 2011, before the earthquake and tsunami. Much of the data in the tables is referenced as either March 2010 or December 2010.

@zichi - in other words, totally unrealistic and absolutely worthless!
Posted in: The reality is that the inspectors only look at the reactors' design and then factor in possible problems such as earthquakes and tsunami of a certain size. They do not take into account the various malfunctions that can result in a disaster, including human error and equipment failure.

They also do not look at how multiple malfunctions can act synergistically to accelerate critical conditions, and how they should be managed....

@elvensilvan - qualified TEPCO supervisor or inspectors allowed a nuclear power plant to run with flat batteries in critical components, it's media server for data transmission off-line for 4 months, generators susceptible to flooding, falsified reactor pressure vessel tests, forged welding data on pipes, and a whole list of other activities.
Do you really think they'll do anything about 8 km of improvised piping in the cold?
The operators did however cover some of the pipes with insulating materials, but the flanges were left exposed...
