Isn't this pretty much the same scenerio as last year when Toyota jumped out to an early lead only to squander it away by years end... giving GM it's 77th consecutive year at #1 !!!

Whatever the case, more trustworthy and reliable websites are reporting that GM sales are actually up globally:

"Outside North America, GM's sales grew 10 percent. The automaker reported exploding sales in emerging markets like Russia, where sales were up 34 percent in the second quarter, and China, where sales rose 14 percent. GM said that despite the tough sales environment in mature markets like the U.S. and Japan, it predicts industrywide global sales will rise 2.5 percent this year to a new record of 72 million vehicles."

Wow ! Imagine that, a new record ! And the future kicker is probably going to be China... where I wouldn't be surprised to see US sales soar while Japanese auto makers (with all that historic baggage) do rather poorly. Odd... Toyota doesn't release regional sales figures so it's hard to say whats really happening where. But they (Toyota) have clearly stated that they expect sales to drop for the first time in nine years for the fiscal year that ends in March 2009. So much for the attempted "happy-go-lucky" spin on this here story from Japantoday !

"Satoshi Nagasawa, 34, who lives in Daisen City, was arrested for allegedly calling a 63-year-old man in Akita City between March and May."

So why not just get a new phone number Mr. 63 year old in Akita ??? I mean cmon now... two months of this nonsense and you simply don't know what to do ??? Sheesh ! Try a little self reliance people !

4 months into the so called "new design" of Japantoday. It's now time to update viewpoints and once again rehash old criticisms.

After the new start-up there were quite a few technical snafus that needed to be ironed out, and they have been ! Overall the site is now easy to navigate with many of the old favorites returned to their rightful places. The title page across the top is nice but would be more useful if scrolling over technology was applied to include all the topics now found at the bottom of the page in blue. In short, why seperate the two ? Seems redundent. This aside though, I have become quite fond of the new look and design.

Nary a weekend goes by in todays Japan where family members and jilted lovers aren't stabbing one another to death. This society continues its rapid descent into chaos.

Bovinus... "hopefully Japan has learnt from the past."

Blind faith, and Japans incompetent medical system, will get ya killed everytime. Unfortunately for Muto Japan has not learned from its past ! Sad !

"No, Bush Co hasn't completely driven you into the ground..."

And he, nor any other American President, ever will ! Spend more time on the reasons why and less on stamping yer foot in frustration... good lad !

    Ummm, calicoat...

"Talk to Iran about nukes? Timetable to leave Iraq? What the heck has happened?"

Nothing ! You've just led yerself to believe that you somehow had a priveleged seat in the oval office courtesy of the world press over the past 7 years. Cmon people shake yerselves ! You have absolutely no idea what is going on in the inner chambers of the US presidents cabinet ! You have never been invited to sit in (thank god !) and every tiny morsel you get is spoon fed through hyperbole known as the world press ! If you come to this forum claiming otherwise.. well... you get a washcloth so you can go wash the mud from yer face !

"Yeh 2,974 people from 90 different nations and a kindergarten is rarely discussed these days ! Why not pontificate on that "bodycount" a bit there madverts ?"

"Uhm, because it has nothing to do with the invasion of Iraq."

Ooo-kayyy... now tell me what you see in this picture... more little bunnies ???

    Cleo, shame on you...

"Hilarious. I see the terrorist attacks that have occurred on the soil of American allies concern you not one little bit. Just so long as the Homeland is safe, huh? With friends like that...."

What makes you think attacks on American allies don't concern me ? Not sure I've ever said that. Is this some of your wishfull thinking ? Putting words into my mouth ? please don't, I'm very capable of expressing myself.

As for your "odd" choice of analogies, well... bwahaha !

Face it Cleo, there were dozens of US targets on terrorists lists after 9/11, including Disneyland, the Space Needle, and stadiums full of sports fans. And you would have been hell bent to find anyone in the USA who thought another attack wasn't coming on 9/12-13-14 etc ! George Bush did what every president before him has done in times of declared war... take the battle to their front, not ours ! The war on terror continues on with more success than failure... and that just eats at you doesn't it ! Talk about "with friends like that".

"Japan is not selfish and immature and does work with it's neighbors on issues."

For example ? Last time I checked Japan had been asked to leave and not attend any further meetings concerning the biggest problem facing the region... North Korea ! Japan's selfish and myopic obsession with the abductees made it virtually impossible to make any progress whatsoever. Face it, whether it be island disputes with the Russians, Chinese, or now Koreans... Japan acts like a little kid who just got a toy taken away ! Whinin and blubberin with no real logical discussion taking place. Much like many of the trade disputes Japan has with one of its major trading partners the USA... makes no sense at all.

Hmmm... serious drought goin on for a good 7 years you say ? Funny, hasn't affected the price of Australian wines around the world one iota ! Be honest now, if the country was really in such dire straights wouldn't export items like wine, beef, fruits and other veggies be seeing their prices go through the roof ??? And wouldn't the government be putting restrictions on water usage, thus driving up prices more ? But, happy to say, we see none of that ! Could this be just more malarkey drummed up by the "climate change" chicken littles ???

The real problem though is that Japan has never demonstrated the ability to work "with" it's Asian neighbours on any front. Japan appears selfish and immature when it digs its heels into minor riffs like this one. I mean really, does Japan see any value in these islands what-so-ever ???

republicoftexas still in such a lather that the nonsensical continues to pour over the keyboard !

"Every religion has its fundamentalists, but not every religious person is a fundamentalist."

Wow, on the surface that appears pretty deep. But the reality is when fundamentalists cause destruction and chaos and your so-called nonfundamentalists sit back and do nothing ... well the signs of approval are deafening ! If muslims wants to control their religion then they better take up arms against these fundamentalists ! I have yet to see this !

    "empire extension" ???

    Economic !

    "ideology"

    Religious !

    "nationalism"

    For example ???

"Your claim is that war is inevitable because the Koran demands it. Personally, I find that simplistic, naive and not rooted in any particularly astute understanding of Islam"

    So enlighten us !

"The Koran does not demand war. People do."

So I will find no reference to conflict or battle in the Koran or any other religious book ??? And war is inevitable ???

Now who is talking nonsense here ?

Taikan, like I said before, recalls and faulty designs do happen. Funny you had to go back to the 70's to find an example of an American auto comp. Ha-ha ! But seriously, here in the 2000's, why does it take Japanese automanufacturers so many years to find their design flaws and faulty workmenship ? And why does it happen so often ? What is it about Japans business culture of lies and deception that continues to run rampant through every industry in the nation today ? With food and Autos being at the forefront of the problem ? I say it's because the punishments are so severe that they do not allow for admission of errors... subsequently it is better to take chances with public safety, than face the wrath of METI ! The evidence is clear on this.

Depends on how you define "included" Cleo ! Many of us Americans believe that offering financial support, training grounds, and various other forms of assistance is "included" !!! That is where Americans and you European outsiders differ ! We see the connections... you don't ! Funny though isn't it Cleo, since the Iraq war started not a single terrorist attack has occured on American soil ! Still don't see the connection ???
