Funny, as Japanese companies falter by the wayside with their "Japan Inc" mindset, American companys like Disney just continue to make money, alliances, and profits ! When will the Japanese learn ? The nation, with all it's stubborness, continues to cut off its nose to spite its face. Bwahaha !

Starbucks "Japan" sucks ! They won't let you even eat an orange now at their tables if it isn't purchased from them. This in complete contrast to the home office in the US, where you can sit down, relax, read a book and enjoy whatever you want to eat right there at one of their tables. I know, I just did it a dozen times over the past few weeks. Again, Starbucks "Japan" is a miserable experience of cat and mouse as you just try to enjoy a cup of coffee ! No thanks... I haven't been back to the one in Tokyo station for months now. I take my business elsewhere, I suggest you do too.

No surprise. Limited product line... where's the butter and American beef ? Poor service... why do they take the product off the shelf at 9:00 pm when they say they stay open till 10:00 pm ??? And where are the express lines ? And why don't the clerks know exactly where their products are out on the floor ??? Frustrating experience shopping at Daiei !

    "at her own expense"

    Yo Texas...

Thousands of people in Japan would love to drive Chryslers. But Japan has engineered a variety of techniques to keep them out of the market. For example, if you need a part replaced, like all cars do, you have to wait for weeks as there are no convenient distribution networks for foreign car parts in Japan. Back in your republic you just head out to Midas or Auto Zone whatever... but in Japan, no chance in hell ! That is one way that Japan has kept foreign models out ! The practice continues to this day. I'd love to see the US do the same thing to Japanese and Korean models... but then again the whiners would be out screamin about free trade and open market access. Funny, that doesn't work here in Nippon. Boo !

Kwaabish ??? I'm confused, didn't the Koreans already agree to import American beef ? Weren't the "standards, guidelines, and limits" decided at that time ??? Sure were bucko ! So why all the backsteppin' by the K gov ? Again... time to take a hammer to the daewoo !

    Pretty damn straight indeed...

"the (Korean) government is interfering in, what should be an open market"

No need for the Korean government to have been involved in the frst place ! And then to go back to the US agriculture reps to "re-work" a deal ??? Whatta buncha nonsense ! I don't see Bush giving the "yay or nay" on Korean cars as they pull up to American sea ports... do you ???

    kwaabish:

"So you're suggesting a Korean government conspiracy whereby the Korean government actually does NOT agree to the import of US beef?"

I suggest nothing ! I speak pretty damn straight, and the poop is, nationalist fervor and market protectors are raising havoc on one of the worlds most popular and statistically safe products... US Beef ! Now make no mistakes, I have no problem with this... but the Koreans need to be held accountable for their actions. Like with Japan I suggest "managed" trade with the Asians and not free trade. America has tolerated million dollar trade imbalances with these nations long enough. Time to square the till ! I say ban Korean products ! They don't produce anything Americans can't anyway. let em starve ! Better yet, let em keep believing there is no bse in Australia ! Now there's a joke for you !

Starbucks Japan sucks bigtime ! Especially the store in the Yaesu shopping center in Tokyo station ! The staff there actually had the gall to ask me not to eat an orange on their premises while I drink my coffee !!! Whatta buncha jerks ! I informed them that in starbucks all over the world I am welcome to eat an orange, read a book, or listen to the music of my choice... so why is Starbucks Japan so stingy ??? No response ! I have yet to return folks... I vote with my feet ! A-holes !

"Bit much to speculate that she was 'thrown from a bridge' when she could have just jumped."

Hmmm, 120,000 unnatural deaths in Japan go "uninvestigated ! Shall we mark this off as 120,001 ?

    Kwaabish... wrong again !

"I thought that the Korean government agreed to import the beef from the US and I thought the people/consumers are protesting the act of the government.2

It's not "the people or consumers" it's organized political groups and local thugs ! What's even worse is this quote:

"But the move provoked a backlash over health concerns spurred in part by false media reports about risks"

Huh ??? Say again... "False media reports" ??? WTF is that all about ? I've said this before, the US needs to take the visual media types to court for slander and the print media to court for libel ! Japan did it in the wake of the 0-517 moyashi (sprouts) scare about 5 years ago with very good results ! In the meantime I'd suggest all American cattle ranchers bust out their sledgehammers and take their frustrations out on a hyundai somewhere !

Old line smitty, still means diddly squat:

"If the customer doesn't want it, DON'T FORCE IT ON THEM!"

Again, you are missing the point. The customers, like here in Japan, are not getting the opportunity to say they don't want it. The government is interfering in, what should be, an open market. Let the consumer decide ! hell they buy alcohol, tobacco products, and automobiles which kill thousands of Koreans every year. So please don't be ignorant and try to argue that this is a "public safety" issue... it aint ! Again, I say ban sales of Daewoo, Samsung, Kia, and any other Korean product till they get the message about what it means to be a "trading partner" ! This is a huge step back to obvious forms of market protection employed by Asian nations for decades. The governments of both Korea and Japan look to con the public into paying higher consumer prices by these ridiculous scare tactics... which smithinjapan obviously swallowed hook-line-and sinker !

Let's hope President Bush turns the "ol cowboy" loose on em. Speaks frank, direct, to the point. "You don't buy American products, we don't buy your" ! Sorry Kia, Hyundai, Samsung, Helio, Daewoo, etc ! I see nothing wrong with shutting Americas borders and markets to Korean goods. The US beef council needs to get off their duffs and attack this issue with a "fire with fire" mentality. I think the US could "convince" the korean public about the safety of american products with just a bit more "prodding"... like sendin' the ingrates to the poorhouse for a few years !

    "Oh in the US"

Isn't the USA the center of the universe ??? Hmm, a rather short lived time at number 1 for Toyota don't ya think ? I mean afterall GM has held the top spot for more than 70 years ! And if it wasn't for Americans taking over the main operations the past 10-15 years... well hell, Toyota would still be a second rate outfit that survives on "free overtime", "karoshi", and a culture of racism and sexism... like it's Japanese counterpart. Make no mistake, Toyota America works ! But like McDonalds Japan, Toyota Japan does things, umm, err, well... the Japanese way !

"Toyota Motor Corp is facing tough decisions..."

Yeh, like when to give up the ship ! I'll say it again... if you are in the automobile industry you are in for a world of hurt over the next 5-10 years ! Oil and gas prices are not coming down, this alone will curb future, so called promising, markets in the BRICS. As for the nation of Japan, wow, another typhoon of bad economic news about to hit the shores ! Batten down the hatches, yer in for a wild one !

"The fuel tax hasn’t been included in the advertised price, and in most cases, that can mean an extra surcharge of anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 yen."

False advertising remains rampant in Japan. Trust me, as one who just purchased tickets outta "hell hole" there are many more hidden charges that simply "hasn't been included" ! Whatta scam ! Illegal in most first world nations. Cmon Japan quit deceiving the customers with bogus adverts like this ! Sheesh !

Madverts... exactly ! Guns prevented more than 2 million crimes in the US last year. And in Japan it was the possession of a gun that stopped the slaughter at Akihabara just a few weeks ago ! Like Shane said, "guns are a tool Marian no better or worse than the man behind it." The US Supreme court, and Shane, have spoken !!!
