@smithinjapan Calm down. I didn't say it's the cheapest place on earth to find a meal, and I didn't even imply that it's the only place to find an inexpensive meal. I live in Canada, where even eating at the crappy mall food court is easily over $10.

One of the best things about Japan, you can have a very good, inexpensive meal.

I concur that the US need to respond, but thinking back that this all started over a movie, is crazy.

I like Japanese TV. It's very different from the usual stuff I see in Canada. I'm looking forward to the new Gaki No Tsukai.

Unusual story to say the least. How are the police sure it's a suicide and not a murder-suicide.

Perhaps the homeless are using the batteries to charge their blue tarp shanty towns.

@FightingViking I see your point, but mentioning in a conversation that you can't cope and directly asking for help are two separate things, at least in Japan. In my experience, Japanese people like to be told/asked directly what you need of them. At least, that goes with the one I'm living with. Perhaps if she had asked her dad to look after the little tyke a couple evenings a week, that would have given her the opportunity to relieve some stress. I agree with you, there isn't much help for young mothers, especially single ones, as I am guessing is the case here.

How can someone raise a child for 3 years, and then have so little emotional attachment, that they can then throw them off a bridge. At least give the poor child a chance and leave her at an orphanage or baby hatch. Did the grandfather attempt to help, when his daughter said she couldn't cope? Come on people, if you need help, then ask for it. If you know someone needs help, then offer them assistance.

What this guy did was terrible, but I hope it puts the spotlight on Japanese dog breeders. This guy disposed of his unwanted dogs illegally, but I'm sure there are more dogs disposed legally. Either way it's cruel for the unwanted dogs.

@ SauloJpn...I don't think you'll find any of the usual commenters here defending this kid. I agree with you, if he didn't like his mother running his life, he's going to dread the next few years even more. If he was so fed up with his home life, I wonder why he just didn't leave.

@ Wontond, so what happened to your co worker who turned right in front of he Japanese motorcycle cop???

This happened in Canada, not Japan. I think she just got a ticket.

Cars turning in front of motorcycles is a very common accident. Drivers either can't see the motorcycle or properly judge their speed, and they think it's safe to turn. 12 years ago, a co-worker turned into the parking lot at work right in front of a motorcycle cop. The police officer hit the car and flew over the hood. Luckily he wasn't going more than 40 km/h and didn't sustain any serious injury.

Watching a kid 24 hours a day is literally impossible, but making sure they don't stray in front of an oncoming train is not that hard.

@ Disillusioned... those were my thoughts exactly. Looks like a puppy mill going out of business, or getting rid of old/unsellable inventory. I wonder how other puppy mills and pet stores get rid of the dogs they can't sell. Probably euthanize and cremate.
