Japan seems to be a very dangerous place for infants and senior citizens. I thought from a cultural standpoint, Japanese mothers didn't like to take infants out of the house. I agree with kwrow2, 2 month-old babies can't crawl, something is very suspicious here.

Korean girl eating Korean noodles, presumably, in Korea. Netizens, stop being so ethnocentric. If she was eating this way in a restaurant in Japan or in your house, then maybe you'd have a reason to be upset, but since she's not you guys need to calm down.

WilliB Last I checked, gay marriage was illegal in Japan, so you must have access to a very good lawyer. My other 2 points stem from the first. Having a lawyer draw up a contract, does not necessarily make it a legal act.

What if somebody's sexuality involved bizarre or criminal acts?

What exactly is your standard of bizarre? At any rate, I'm pretty sure hetero couples partake in "bizarre" sexual behavior. As for criminal acts, that is what the criminal code is for.

Wow! I can’t believe the amount of intolerant comments I’m reading here. The LGBT community are not looking for special rights, but rather rights hetero couples have that are being denied to them : marriage, inheritance rights and the ability to make medical decisions for an incapacitated partner, to mention a few. We see heterosexual behavior everyday walking down the street or in the media. We’ve become so accustomed to it that we don’t even notice it. If the LGBT community want to have their 1 day out of the year, then I don’t think it should be too much of a hardship for the hetero community so long as they keep it G-rated.

@ukguyjp No doubt. People will always find "reasons" to discriminate against other people.

For their own safety, the 5 guys might want to keep the reason of their incarceration from the other inmates...embarrassing.

@ukguyjp I think your facts are incomplete. The gay activist was killed while trying to breakup a fight, with one participant being a psychiatric patient who was off his meds. I don't think the guy knew who he was beating to death and supporters of the gay activists have actually shown sympathy towards the man hoping he gets the psychiatric help he deserves.

Let's look at it a different way. If all overhead costs are built in to a fixed price and you receive bad service, then what recourse does the customer have? At the end of the service, you could complain, but you'd still have to pay 100% of the bill and the server has no motivation to provide good service because they get paid regardless of the job they did. Granted this usually doesn't happen in Japan, but do you think you could expect the same kind of service in the US?

For someone who works as a waiter and expects a tip, they need a reality check or a different job.

I'm guessing that 99% of wait staff would rather be doing something. Reality check?! It doesn't get any more real than serving other people.

And maybe it's just me, but I don't find calculating a 15% tip difficult.

What you're saying is that the establishments are cheap, not the customers. Pay a decent wage, and there is no need for serving staff to rely on charity and largess.

Cleo, so what you're saying is you don't mind paying a little more, but you would rather have it hidden into the cost of the product as opposed to a tip. Fair enough, I don't disagree with that. All I'm saying is that everyone deserves to earn enough to live. Tipping or no tipping, I reckon customers are contributing the same amount. I'm not a pessimist, so I don't tip to ensure good service, but I do tip to reward good service. Also, not all servers are created equal. I've been to a few 3 star restaurants where the serving staff really know their stuff and treat their job as a craft. It's almost a pleasure watching them work.

I'll clarify my original comment and say I'm indifferent to tipping. I'm happy to follow the local custom and if means tipping to help my fellow man/woman who's not earning a sufficient wage, then I'm OK with that. It's also good to consider that the tip doesn't go to just the server, it's usually pooled and split with the kitchen staff and hostess.

I'd suggest that people who don't like the habit of tipping stick to food courts, fast food restaurants or other establishments where tipping is not expected.

I know this will be an unpopular comment, but people who don't tip servers, who make minimum wage (or close to it), are cheap. Establishments justify paying crap wages because they believe most of the patrons will tip their server. If thishelps to keep the overall cost low, then I'm all for it as it probably evens out in the end.

Paying minimum wage is basically the company saying, "if I could pay you less, I would."

Japan should be taxing it's citizens less and spending the money to shore up it's energy infrastructure. I don't know how a country with anemic growth can afford to pledge billions of dollars. Save yourself before helping others.
