Although what this guy did is diplorable, I can only imagine how difficult it is to raise a child with a disability (though we know not of the severity)..... what is the appropriate punishment in such a case? Hard to say. Can:t help but feel that if a few more doors were open as a society, that this might have been avoided? A very difficult and tragic case.

The grammar translation method is a well-established method THAT has long been used to teach some of the world’s great languages.

WilliB - Marriage isnt defined by who/what you can have sex with. Would someone disabled and unable to have sex be ineligible for marriage then?

So, does that mean same sex marriage in Japan is accepted as long as no one talks about it? First I've heard of it.
Shhh.... don:t talk about it

The modern glasses even are too heavy and uncomfortable. Eyes get tired. I prefer they concentrate on making a good movie, rather than put the effort into the 3D. A bad movie is horrible enough without it being in 3 dimensions

Politcal funding; Is it not ones democratic right to donate money to a party in which they believe in ? Granted such system is open to abuse, but state funding only is not the answer ; can:t argue that funding should be based on party size, as number of votes may be a function of spending. It would be ludicrous to have each partys spending the same, as extreme right/left wing nut job parties would gain equal political stage.

Any woman who gives birth to a kid and raises them as best she can has my admiration. More so for the majority who do it without whining!

Well i spose your point no 2 indicates that Katakana is an obstacle. Sorry~

Afraid you are wrong. Katakana poses a major obstacle to learning english ; in much the same way as learning only roomaji Japanese hinders progress in Japanese. Other asian countries, china for example learn english in english, not in some substitute 3rd way lanaguage (Like katakana)
Japanese is a phonetically strong language. The vowels and consonants are pretty well clipped into a set pronunciation and Japanese stress is pretty much equally applied to all syllables.
Wrong, Japanese has a relatively low number of phonems compared to many other languages. This is one obstacle to pronunciation.

With a girl who is weight concious or "on a diet". Doesnt really exercise....... "fancy a startbucks after lunch?" "yeh why not" goes into startbucks, and orders a Small Caramel Millions of Calories Frappuchino-like thing. I just dont get it.

valued_customer The idea of a timed bomb or wotever might sound hollywood-ish, but the concept exists whether you like it or not. An imminent large scale attack on an unknown area by uncomfirmed means, very real. And if such situations do occur in the real world, I doubt they would leak such details to the media.

I:m not sure if i would or now. Part of me says its wrong.... but if it were me or my loved ones who may be the intended target I don:t think my moral conscience would win..... There is a very good movie with Samuel L Jackson, called "Unthinkable" , which looks at this issue....... very thought provoking.

Kanji makes sense to me. Katakana on the other hand I find the most difficult ; trying to work out what word in what language it is trying to cover.
