my opinion the real people that really lowered the level on civil discourse are the ones that could not refer to any Republican policy or Republicans themselves without including the word "dolt" or similar sentiments in a post the past 8 years.

LOL! And while we're at it, let's really pretend that the largely well-reasoned and non-threatening criticism of failed Republican policies provides the justification for angry right-wingers lowering the level by several rungs further. What planet do these doltish conservatives live on?

Anyway, the sane segment of the American population is witness to these nutcases exercising their free right to make complete asses of themselves. Like immature little kids who want attention.

The problem will come when the impact of just showing their guns will wear off, and a few of them are going to want to ratchet up things a bit more. And their foolish apologists will somehow again find a left-winger to blame everything on.

But it is all too often the refuge of an unhappy patient or grieving family to sue as an emotional reaction to a perceived injustice.

Yes, but that doesn't mean they will actually collect a penny, unless a judge/jury agrees with the case they present. No, what must be happening is doctors and nurses are so overworked and stressed with all of the administrative wrangling (and other burdens) laid on them by the system that the rate of genuine mistakes, as opposed to "emotionally percieved injustices" has increased.

You must not know much about history. If there is a public scheme, within just a few years, there won't be a private one any more.

And the problem with that is....

I've never seen anyone explain what value private insurance companies add to the system of paying for health care. Each insurance company skims FAR more out of the system and leaves many more people uncovered at the time when they need health coverage most.

the answer here is a little introspection on your part, not a massive government overhaul, and added bureaucracy.

A little introspection on your part would be more appropriate: Taking a look at the distribution of $9/hr jobs in the current U.S. economy -- jobs that don't normally come with any health care -- what percentage of those currently employed at that salary will find higher-paying jobs waiting for them if they decide they want to "move up."

The simple fact is that the U.S. economy is shedding many more jobs than it is creating, which only adds to the dire situation with health care.

Fact- almost 85% of Americans between 22-44 have health care.

Where are you getting that "fact" from?

Fact- Almost 90% of Americans aged 45- and up have health care.

Fact: Nearly 100% of Americans over age 65 have health care because of a program known as Medicare. That serves to cloud the percentage of uninsured between the ages of 45 and 65, which must have been your intent.

What percentage of personal bankruptcies in the U.S. are due to paying for health care? Lots of people have "health care," up until the point that they become ill and actually need it -- and then their insurance company drops their coverage.

The number of illegal aliens drawing on the health care system is nothing but another diversionary scare tactic.

I really hope I do not have to eat my words about either one of them being excellent human beings.

I read about the situation and felt exactly the way you did about the couple. But in this crazy world I often have to reserve my judgment.

The possibility you provide is very plausible also.

The San Francisco Chronicle calls it "political genius."

Add that one to the many lies told by Palin and her supporters. The editors of the San Fransico Chronicle did not classify Palin's move as such.

The truth is that a single opinion-writer, Willie Brown, presented his opinion that Sarah's move was political genius. Willie is doing his job as an opinion writer -- by presenting things to get people's attention.

If Republicans and other idiots buy Brown's assessment of Palin's political skills -- and I fully agree that she has lots of very dumb people eating out of her palms -- then you have to buy Brown's explanation of Palin's actual motives. It is only through those motives that Palin's move can be seen as a good one.

Unfortunately, Palin is not honest and straightforward enough to admit to those motives.

WhiteHawk asks: "What hypocrisy, and which lies? C'mon man, be specific."

Andrew Sullivan has recorded and documented over 30 whopping falsehoods told by Sarah Palin. All of them are great examples of specificity.

C'mon man, pick one of them and refute it here.

Governor Palin never claimed she was an intellectual or a foreign policy expert. You held her to a standard she never set for herself.

What??!! Why can't people set a high standard for what they want in a leader? I want a leader who will be admired for their genuine intelligence, wit, historical and world perspective, and an ability to think on their feet. Palin has NONE of those qualities.

She's not even the "pit bull in lipstick" that she touted herself to be, quitting the post that the people of Alaska elected her to, and which she took an oath to serve her term. Quitting like this is ten times more bizarre than John McCain quitting his campaign to rush to DC to help solve the financial crisis.

This is quite an extraordinary and disturbing case, and one that is certain to become a sensation once more details are disclosed. Yesterday, Escambia County's Sheriff Morgan indicated that one or more of the men who attacked the house were aware of the family situation with special needs kids.

Since the men were in the house only for a few minutes, and reports do not indicate whether they actually took anything, it appears that the motive for this was other than robbery. If murder was the intent from the beginning, it seems very odd that so many people could be recruited for an attack like this. (As opposed to a lone, disgruntled individual.)

One possibility is that Mr. Billings may have had a secret life that involved him with some very bad people. Another possibility is that the group harbored neo-Nazi-type viewpoints about taking care of special needs people. (During the Nazi regime, the mentally retarded were euthanized.)

The US has made some incredible strange choices in the past when it comes to politicos & this woman is not seen as normal.

Hey, when you have people presenting a rate of 3 reversals in over 232 majority decisions as a "60%" reversal rate, you can see how dangerously stupid some Americans are. Which explains the Palin phenomenon perfectly.

I attribute stuff like this to massive brain damage due to lead poisoning.

I'm sorry yabits, I should have clarified that I was referring to the decisions that were appealed before the Supreme Court, and not every judicial decision she ever made.

And so you admit that only 5 of the 232 decisions in which Sotomayor sided with the majority were deemed worthy of review by the Supreme Court. You preferred to throw out the 60% figure because it made Sotomayor sound like she wasn't a good judge.

Especially since the average reversal rate for other appellate districts hovers near 70%.

This is the typical kind of dishonest buffoonery which conservatives are noted for.

Reading between the lines, it appears you're trying to bark loudly while retreating.

I'm still laughing at your buffoonery regarding the "60%" reversal rate -- which was derived from a total of 3 reversals in 232 cases.

What about the 60% of her decisions being overturned by the Supreme Court?

Funny to see conservatives like WhiteHawk resort to Limbaugh-like buffoonery. Par for the course.

Sotomayor figured in the majority of 232 cases as an appellate judge. Of those 232 cases, 3 were overturned by the Supreme Court -- a reversal rate of 1.3 percent. Of course, the baffoons never mention the fact that of 232 decisions, only 5 were considered worthy of review by the Supreme Court, and three of those five were reversed -- which is where the baffoons draw their very laughable 60% figure.

Actually the reversal rate by the Supreme Court for the cases it does review is usually higher than 60% by appellate court district. So Sotomayor's district actually fared better than many others.

It's someone parodying a great governor of a great state.

The more susceptible to parody, the less great. Those who associate Palin with the word great are a regular laugh riot.

“I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation,” she said during an interview published Sunday in The Washington Times.

My gosh, she's running for Miss America!

And what, pray tell, are the "right things" that Sarah Palin -- playing God -- claims to be able to discern in the beliefs of others? Doesn't this imply that Palin -- playing God again -- only has beliefs that are 100% "right?"

How about if I post a list of quotes, some by Sarah Palin and some by Tina Fey imitating Sarah Palin, and see how many Palin-haters on JT can pick out who said what?

Yes, I believe there are many Republicans who actually keep track of these things, which, in intellectual relevance, rank somewhere with the ruminations of Junior Sample on Hee Haw, and the "pre-fight" wisdom of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Unbelievable, that there are Americans who really think that this woman should be the next president.

Well, you've heard of American Idol? The Republicans have taken this one step farther and called their search for a new leader, "American Idiot." The trick is to see who can appeal most to the most ignorant, misinformed knuckle-draggers out there, after wrapping the contestant in an American flag and getting photos out there of them holding guns.

The flag and guns are there to distinguish them from the ignorant and misinformed among the Democrats. The sheer volume of such types among the Republicans are what makes this kind of campaigning so profitable.

So what? Who says all Hispanics have to approve of her?

...so if you think we could be bought just by putting her up there
