    Islam means peace.

    Islam means submission.

But we never see it in the Islamic countries.

Really? Millions make the hajj to Mecca and 99% of the time it is a mass gathering of genuine brotherhood. I don't believe the West knows the way to peace.

As I wrote earlier in this discussion, the New York Times article was found to be incorrect

Further research has determined that the NYT article does not tell the full story. The definitive piece on this topic, by consensus, is the work of Allen Sloan and Jeff Gerth for Fortune/ProPublica.

However, as Sloan writes: "One reason the Times got ensnared -- and that it took us a while to figure things out -- is that the material is confusing. Professor Outslay drew up 10 GE tax metrics for us, and could have given us at least six more. None of them show what GE's U.S. income tax bill is for a given year."

Note: That means you can't definitively assert that GE paid taxes either.

Sloan continues: "We're certainly not siding with GE, which for decades has been an aggressive tax-minimizer, and could have averted this mess by explaining things simply and clearly to the Times and us and others. It either couldn't or wouldn't do so."

Fact: GE has not yet paid any taxes for 2010. It was this year -- 2011 -- that they paid some minimal taxes for 2009. As Sloan writes: "After repeated conversations with GE -- remember, we've been working on this story too -- we can finally give you reasonably definitive answers. The company says that it's not getting any refund for 2010 -- validating Outslay's analysis. Its 2010 tax situation? "We expect to have a small U.S. income tax liability for 2010," GE chief spokesman Gary Sheffer told us. How big is small? GE declined to say. The number is unlikely to ever be disclosed unless GE goes public with it, or is forced to do so."

And the worst part about it is no one can explain to you where all your money went. They use fancy words like derivatives to confuse and disorient you but the fact of the matter is your money was stolen. Meanwhile some guy on Wall Street just bought his girlfriend a $1,000,000 diamond engagement ring from what used to be your neighborhood homes. Dozens of people are out of work or kicked out of their homes to pay for that ring and you wonder why people are upset.

It would really tee me off if a government leader rushed to bail out these crooks using taxpayers' money. People losing their homes and the culprits of the debacle are using bailout money to pay out bonuses to their henchmen.

Of course, we can't complain about this because to point out the truth would be "class warfare."

The republicans are toast in 2012!

2012? They are s**t on a shingle today -- minus the shingle.

And now Obama will cut the bill to peices and force congress to vote on every single one of them.

Just watch. As he takes each one to each relevant Republican district so that the people can witness their rep voting NO on jobs for their district, the Repubs will be imploring to wrap them all back up into a package. More political cover for their sorry behinds that way.

I am sorry, I have no empathy with most of these bums.

This is a very typical if not prominent right-wing attitude. And why? Because basically, those on the right genuinely dislike people. Only those individuals who conform to the right-wingers' idea of what is right can they get empathy.

That is why a right-winger can get misty-eyed looking at a picture of a soldier with John Wayne and the American flag, but as soon as that soldier admits that he's gay and/or homeless -- he gets booed off the stage. He just didn't conform to their narrow view of what is acceptable.

Also, note and contrast the overtones of violence at Tea Party rallies with that of the "occupy" folks. ("Nothing better than a dead liberal" is playing on YouTube, and you won't find anything remotely resembling that sentiment at these Occupy gatherings.

Good grief yabits, when are you going to admit that what you said about Palin is based on hearsay?

Hearsay may not be sufficient evidence to convict someone in a court of law, but it is more than sufficient to form a judgment. Like the famous comment from Steve Schmidt (McCain's campaign coordinator) about Palin that "She knows nothing" -- referring to her grasp of foreign issues and current affairs. (They reported that she could not talk about a single Supreme Court case other than Roe v. Wade.)

You can't prove she said anything that would indicate that she didn't know why there are two Koreas.

I can certainly prove there were stories about her lack of knowledge about Korea and other issues emanating from the McCain campaign. (I never "made them up" as you falsely stated.) The people on the campaign knew best. Nothing I have personally witnessed about Palin causes me to doubt them. What I have seen from the people around her and her fans is of extremely low integrity of character. They'll say and do just about anything to prop her up.

The package of tax cuts and spending failed by a vote of 50 to 48 in the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED SENATE. How are the republicans to blame for this one?

The final vote was 51-48 in favor of the bill. The Republicans are to blame because 51 votes is not enough to pass a bill when a filibuster is called for. (Realize there is nothing in the U.S. constitution to say that a bill requires at least 60 votes to pass the Senate.)

If and when the Republicans gain a slight majority in the Senate and the Democratic senators employ the tactic that the Republicans are now using, what will you right-wingers say then? Back in 2001, the Republican hypocrites were moaning about "obstructionism" when the Democrats even mentioned the threat of a filibuster -- the tactic Republicans now use all the time.

I know Halperin got it wrong. The people who think Palin didn't know why there are two Koreas also think she thought Africa was one country

You accused me of making the story up about Palin and two Koreas. The story came from the people on McCain's campaign who were trying to bring the Half-Governor up to speed on basic issues.

The true accusation is that you don't have the integrity of character to admit you were wrong.

However, GE did and does pay local, state and federal taxes in the US. Maybe these people should learn how to do their taxes and read a spreadsheet before protesting.

Ben_Jackinoff is wrong here. According to the facts, as presented in a great many places -- including a NYTimes story of March 24 of this year -- titled *GE's strategies let it avoid taxes altogether* -- GE actually gets back more from the US government than they pay in taxes, giving them a negative tax rate.

In 2010, GE reported $5.1B of profits in the US alone. ($14.2B worldwide). On that $5.1B, GE paid the U.S. government nothing. In fact, they received a $3.2B tax benefit -- yes, money from Uncle Sam.

Halperin already admitted to "making stuff up"

    You are wrong.

and had to admit they did not know exactly what Clinton said.

There is a vast difference between not knowing something someone said exactly and making things completely up. The difference between "The guy would have been getting us coffee" and "The guy would have been bringing us tea." is one only a fairly desperate or dishonest person would rationalize to themselves as being "completely made up."

Plus, Halperin was not quoting anyone in the Palin story. He was reporting what folks on the campaign who were prepping Palin were telling people. Nothing in the reality that is Palin suggests that the report is a false one.

Why there are two Koreas is something a lot of Americans don't know. I consider Palin more like the run-of-the-mill ignorant American than someone along the lines of a Jeanne Kirkpatrick or Hillary Clinton -- who outpoint her in sheer knowledge by many orders of magnitude. Bottom line is that the report is out there and I didn't just "make it up." Thank you for your participation.

A review found after researched on the internet as you suggested.

Ah, so you were able to verify that I was "not making stuff up," as Serrano falsely accused.

I think Halperin got it right.

America is no longer a true democracy. The majority have no real voice in government. All the power has been bought by the richest. Simply, it is a plutocracy.

This is precisely what officers of Citibank informed their superiors in now infamous internal communications. Ordinary Americans have to fed with a constant line of BS in order to dupe them that "the system" is working for them -- when all indications are that it is not.

One thing I disagree with in your quote: America was never anything close to a real democracy. But there are millions of people who believe in and want democracy. Perhaps the second American revolution -- a non-violent one -- will bring us closer to it.

Sure, yabits, just make up stuff and post it, sheesh.

Your accusation that I made up "stuff" about Palin is a false one. She really is that clueless.

The allegation that Palin could not explain why there are two Koreas comes directly from the people associated with the McCain campaign of 2008. Upon the first briefings of Palin by McCain's team, Palin could not explain what the function of the Federal Reserve is; when asked who attacked the US on 9/11, she said "Saddam Hussein"; and she could not explain the reason why there were two Koreas.

The events are related in the book about the campaign, Race of a Lifetime, by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, and can be easily searched on the Internet.

So, as I have just demonstrated, I did not make up anything. People who make completely foolish and false accusations, and who don't have the character to admit they are wrong, deserve Sarah Palin as their candidate. The decent, honest people of America deserve far better than that.

Chris Dodd apologised for his part in decieving the public.

There is no record anywhere of former Senator Christopher Dodd apologizing for what you claim. Perhaps you can cite the date and circumstances of when he supposedly did this.

Barney Frank has yet to do so.

Since the Republicans held key leadership positions in the House and Senate, as well as the White House, which of them should apologize for allowing Barney Frank to control them?

You do understand that we using personal computers and more than likely a windows operating system to have this discussion half way around the world don't you?

Fans of Half-Governor Palin just won't give up or wake up -- no matter how many times the obvious is presented to them.

The most common OS was developed for a large corporation by a very small group of "friends" (Gates, Allen, etc.) because the large corporation couldn't handle the task. Gates, in turn, purchased the basic heart of the OS from the work of another individual -- who developed it alone.

Just about everything that's going into the ability to post on this website was initially conceived and developed by a handful of individuals working independently of a corporation.

Just as Palin thought she was qualified on foreign affairs because Alaska is in the proximity of Russia, some people obviously are under the delusion that the brand name on their technology products was the creator of them.

Agreed, that Corporate developed Technology in the first place is sure is helping them get the word out to others to overthrow those corporate fat cats.

Ah, the belief that it's corporations who are contributing most to technology development and innovation goes contrary to reality. But it aligns nicely with what a Palin-fan would say.

Can't begin to name all the start-ups that were founded by people who had to leave corporations where their work was being stifled. It's technology and innovation that builds large corporations and not the other way around.

But that's why it's so much fun to watch Half-Governor Palin and her foolish followers: They never met a corporate bureaucracy that they didn't love -- all the while pretending their for the "little guy."

"Technology has taken power away from central authorities and provided individuals with more choices. We are no longer living in a top-down world. Now we are living in a bottom-up world, from entertainment and information to education."

    Pretty astute I must say.

It was astute of whoever wrote it for Half-Governor Palin. She's living proof that we're in a "bottom-up" world: The Republicans went to the bottom to find her, and up she went.

I can't help but believe she's just given an inadvertent and unintended nod to the thousands of people who are now "occupying" dozens of our cities. Technology has certainly given them the means and capability of speaking out against those who want to continue to use top-down power. Within a week, however, Half-Governor Palin will be back on Fox casting aspersions on the "Occupy" crowds -- making her statement in Korea look downright foolish.

Who do these people actually represent? 99% of the great unwashed?

Thanks to the conservative philosophy and policies of unbridled capitalism -- letting the wolves loose to prey on everyone else -- there are more and more people who are finding themselves among the great "unwashed."

I believe it terrifies you to sense all that you have wasted your time and efforts defending a system bearing fruit that has harmed the lives of millions upon millions of Americans -- and the numbers keep growing.
