" Japan is well built for earthquakes"

Tell me that after a 6 or 7 hits Tokyo.

I'd never let the mother of my child stay in jail. No matter how much I resented her - out of love for my child.

And even if you thought everything was totally safe, there's still the thought of an earthquake.

In other words, Neversubmit, most parents seem paranoid to others - but paranoia has kept my kids safe thus far. Murphy's Law is especially applicable to little boys. If there's something crazy dangerous they could get up to, they probably will.

"I can imagine leaving a three year old unattended for 2 minutes."

You'd be surprised at what can happen in two minutes (which might actually be 5 if there are a lot of people at the counter)

@neversubmit. Most parents would also worry about stoves, sharp objects, ofuros, who knows -even s silly kid falling headfirst into a toilet, stranger at the door, etc etc etc.

Most kids get injured at home. Maybe you don't have kids, but there always comes the day when the young kid learns how to unlock a door, drag a chair etc. This poor kid died because the mother wasn't thinking even about the obvious. In fact it's so absurd that I immediately thought the Patrick Smash angle too.

But if it was an honest mistake ...man, a 12 yr old baby sitter would know better. Ironic that people can go to youchien, 12 years of school, maybe juku, maybe another 2 or 4 years after that, and still have less ability at basic things than some people who went to school for 6 years or less. Don't people have the ability to just think?

Weird. But is it that easy to plant a camera and keep checking on it for two years? Wonder how he got caught.

If I were a woman, I'd be checking for cameras from now on.

Basically a normal buy wouldn't want to shower with guys and hug them.

I bet many more victims will come forward. I'm always amazed that kids don't belt adults when they are molested, but I've never been in the situation so I guess I can't say.

Seems Japan needs the TPP even more than ever for fresh produce that is safe

Well believe it or not, an Japanese told me that she was opposed to TPP because food from other countries has too much radiation. Sometimes I just can't be bothered taking things further so I just say "eeeeeee" and remind myself that all of Japan is in the twilight zone.

Naruhodo, I read your comment with great interest. I've always felt Japanese boys were cruel to animals. I've seen Japanese kids kill a small creature for no reason. Can you explain why you think (by your own admission) Japanese men would want to inflict pain on even a wild animal? Because I don't get it. Maybe we can get somewhere in understanding this.

Understatement of the century, but Smokin Joe was one tough man. Don't make them like that anymore. If you don't know about it and want to know more about not only boxing but US history and culture, read up on The Fight of the Century. Incredible. It's a sad day.

I'd be feeling pretty peeved if I were an employee who had been told the company can't afford to pay more out in salaries.

$687 million in advisory fees? And nobody noticed that? Do they have accountants and auditors in Japan?

Geez if things like telling people they are attractive and saying that someone is the same height as your spouse, I'd be guilty of sexual harassment. But by the same token, I'm harassed all the time. I need to go get a lawyer. Does Gloria visit Japan?

Maybe Cain should just say that he's sorry and used to go too far back in the last century but now he has changed.

I'd ordinarily agree with most of you, but it just so happens that through my extensive biblical studies and 11 visions, it's been revealed to me that the 11:11 on the 11th of the 11th will be the start of the judgement and the end of the world.

For a small donation I can tell you how to be one of the elect who is spared. Mock at your own peril.

That opening comment by Burakumindesu, is one of the most gracious comments you'll ever hear from an Aussie after being beaten by the Kiwis. And dittos.

I think next week I'll be an honorary Kiwi. Go the All Blecks!

How about instead of getting excited about the first woman Pres, or black, or gay, or Asian, or bisexual or trilingual, that we just get a good one.

Never had a problem with immigration in Tokyo. Never had to wait for long. Don't have the slightest problem with fingerprinting, and I think racial profiling is a great idea. There should be more of it.

Stop whining, and be thankful Japanese let you live in their country. And if they bring in a new system, that's fine by me too.

I wish, wish, wish that Japanese could get it through their heads that roads are dangerous. I see people do stupid things all the time. And it's not just the young people. Almost everyday I see people walking on the road whether there are blind corners even when their is a safe sidewalk on the other side of the road. It's crazy.

I feel sorry for the driver. Just remember, that if you drive here, people expect to be able to do anything at anytime on roads. Scary.

Typing this on a macbook with an iPhone plugged into it and being amazed at how one man can have such an impact on the world. There's so much you can learn from his life and his experiences both positive and negative and I'll be reading up and watching some of his speeches in the hope a little rubs off. I'm old enough to remember when a few quirky people would rave about what they could do on their mac, and most people didn't know what one was! Now look at Apple's place in the world. He just kept coming out with amazing stuff. Thanks a lot Mr Jobs. You made my life a lot easier and a lot more interesting.

I think it's great. But I would make each cigarette 1000 yen. So if people are still stupid enough to smoke at least they will probably reduce considerably, and we will save their lives, and the lives of the poor people who have to live with them.

And of course smoking should be banned in restaurants.

Anyway, the best thing to do is to clean up as you cook. I can cook and clean in such a way that after I eat all that's left to do is wash the dishes.
