?? That's kind of funny.
Girl: I really had a great time tonight. Thanks for all those drinks you bought me. You're sweet" Boy: Hey how about I see you next week? Girl: Sorry, you really are a nice guy, but it'll never work...you, well.. .you live outside the Yamanote Line!
I think Nicky is right. But surely, SHE hasn't used that line...

"where my sympathy absolutely dies is where she not only refused to allow the father to be part of the daughters life"
Unfortunately many Japanese still think it's atarimae that once parents get divorced, one of them won't have anything to do with the children. It's really sad, and I hope it changes.

"As I said before, these people have their own issues that they are applying to your situation, "
Yep, that's it.
Interesting about the way people look at things. When I first spoke about this case, my wife (Japanese) instantly took the side of the Japanese mother and thought it obvious that a Japanese mother would and should ignore the laws of another country.
But, when I said what if your favorite cousin married a gaijin girl who just left with your niece and your Moms granddaughter and was living in another country. She immediately understood then.
So, some people just don't think.

Elbuda, the Japanese military was brutal beyond description. Yes there are atrocities in all wars, but the suffering caused and directly inflicted by Japan in WW2 against Asians and Westerners was horrendous, and needs to be remembered and learned from - especially by Japanese. Just from memory I could write pages of the war crimes committed in so many different places.
Simply put, yeah the Japanese were worse. They started it, and kept up atrocities right to the end, and even afterwards in the case of some diehards.
From what I understand Christians believe that even a monster should have a decent burial. From what I understand, those who died and are enshrined at Yasukuni are NOW not considered to be criminals.

"So why do I side with her? Well remember my background so it my natural my initial reaction went to her."
I think this attitude explains 90% of the problems in the world.

The Yasukuni issue is extremely complex and most people who have an opinion about it don't really know much about it.
My conclusion is that it isn't for foreigners to tell Japanese what to do about it. There are many normal Japanese who have visited Yasukuni to remember the family members or fallen comrades. There reasons they do are many and varied, and also personal.
As to the war criminals, and whether it should make a difference whether A.B or C, and whether those charged as criminals did receive a fair trial is another huge issue.
I don't know enough about Shinto to know how the spirits of the so called War Criminals would be taken out. Be interested to know though in case there's a shinto priest on the boards.

”Rebuilding and economy, we can manage by ourselves, ”
Do you have any idea how much foreigners have donated to Japan?
Do you have any idea how many foreigners went up there to deliver food and aid even in the first week? In many cases, even before Japanese got there? And do you have any idea how many foreigners are still up there involved in rebuilding?
It's okay to be against the free tickets - but, please think first before you come out with the "we Japanese can do everything by ourselves" rhetoric.
And actually, you would have been better asking for and accepting more foreign help from Day 1 in the case of the nuclear reactors.
Japanese who think like you are EXACTLY the reason for Japan's problems.

The real question is - is the govt, and society any better prepared for a 7, or 8 earthquake hitting close to Tokyo? I don't think so.
They weren't prepared in Kobe and they weren't prepared for March 11 - even thought they should have been. This is earthquake and tsunami country for heaven's sake.
Japanese are just too proud. And they still don't seem to have the ability to imagine and make counter measures for "What if" situations.
Tell them to build a better car, TV set or train and they are fantastic. But their ability to plan for , and respond to disaster is terrible.
Experts at making simple things difficult.

I think it's great to have a society where people of different beliefs can get along without killing each other. The problem i have with the sign lady is that that recorded message is played way so loud it's disturbing. But I think that about the right-wingers too.
Kind of interesting actually...

From what I can see, it's a great ending (and beginning) to the story. She acted illegally by leaving the US with the girl in the first place, and was terrible to not let him see his daughter.
And now Moises Garcia sounds like he is trying to be fair all round.
Hopefully, Japanese will learn that even after a divorce it's possible to make the best of things, and allow children to see both parents. Would be great if this got TV time here in Japan.

I feel sorry for the mother who lost her children AND for the driver. People need to be more careful and realize one second can change your life.
I always stop when I see people waiting at a crossing, but when I do, drivers coming in the other direction often need driving.
But as I've said before, I see people young and old doing stupid things everyday on the roads - drivers, bike riders, pedestrians. I'm amazed there aren't more accidents.

"I am not quite sure why he would be hated so so much. If Kim is responsible for some evil deeds of intentional malice, I don't know what they are."
It's perfectly understandable. If you don't know what his deeds of malice are you either don't read anything, listen to the news, or perhaps are in the running for next North Korean TV News Announcer...?
I agree with Smith's sentiment still. I think a lot of people have missed his point.
btw, most of you probably are not aware of half the suffering that goes on in prisons and camps in that country.

If Ghandi were alive and said the same thing as Smith, he would be lauded as a great humanitarian.
I understand your sentiment Smith.
And actually, if you think about it, North Korea being able to tell it's people that people of other countries are rejoicing and celebrating the death of their leader probably isn't going to help anything.
