@Yuri. China is not making a claim for Ishigaki, Miyako, Naha - and I can't imagine them ever doing that. But if they did the whole world would be against them, and I would totally support any military invention to prevent that. i'd probably go myself.
I see Senkaku as totally different. btw, I probably trust China less than anyone.

@Oldsanno
I think the South Korean govt, should. Mind you, this is a case of Koreans killing Koreans.
It's surprising that you would use this as an example in your argument. Americans are completely different in their attitudes to their own atrocities. I think the Korean's have made a movie about this very incident, and I saw news events in the US media about it.
If the US had been responsible, by now you would have a major US movie about it. And recent movies about WW2 made in Hollywood seem to make an effort to show the other side.
oldsanno. Like I said, I am not even saying that Japan needs to pay compensation. What I want you to realize is that it's totally disturbing that right wingers in Japan don't seem to have any normal feelings of sympathy toward the MILLIONS who suffered from MANY countries in WW2.
Even just a "yeah, that's terrible" would show something. But instead there are just rants about the evil of other countries. You can love your country, and still recognize that it did terrible things in the past.
Maybe Japan needs the equivalent of a "Roots" drama series.

Which I think is the whole point. I don't think Japan needs to pay people anymore either.
It's true that some comfort women volunteered. It's true that some were sold by their countrymen and family members. Some had worse experiences than others. But what is really disturbing is that more Japanese don't take an interest, that it isn't JAPAN that educates it's people on the suffering caused. I'm not angry about it anymore. Just sad, that such a great nation as Japan has such a huge blindspot.

Start from Pearl Harbor, read about the Bataan Death March, read about the atrocities Japanese committed against not only Americans, but Australians, British, Dutch, Filipinos, Chinese, Koreans, New Zealanders, etc etc, and you will realize that it would have been absurd for Japan to try to claim compensation.
I think that war is war too. If your country is attacked, I think it's fair to defend yourself.
Issa, you just have to face the reality that people of not only China and Korea, but so many countries suffered because of the actions of your country in the last war. You can argue that Japan doesn't need to pay compensation now, but a little display of sympathy would show you to be a much nicer person.

@YuriOtani
Do you really believe that? You honestly think that if Japan agreed to let China have Senkaku that next they would be demanding Ishigaki and Miyako? Naha? Really?

The lack of sympathy for what some of these women went through is so disturbing. Really.

@Yuri Otani, have you studied the accounts of Japanese atrocities? (I don't mean books by right-wingers who try to deny everything).

I can't imagine ever punching an elementary school kid in the face. It's crazy. Then some of you have the old solutions about sending the big brother along or even the father. That's dumb. In some cases they will send their older brother's, or maybe one Dad will beat the bully, then the bully's Dad might be a black belt.
We need to start using our brains more.

Talk to the kids involved, talk to the teacher, if that fails talk to the principal. If that fails, tell the principal you will talk to the police or media, and things will happen overnight.
If you go about things the right way most times they can be solved at the lower levels.
It's interesting too that everyone remembers being bullied or their kids being bullied, but not many people remember being the bad guy. Who knows - if you could talk to your old classmates honestly, you might find someone who thought they were on the receiving end of your teasing.

Come on earthlings! You can't kill a baby because you are depressed, you can't kill your husband because you are tired of looking after him, and you can't punch an elementary school kid six time in the face in a classroom because your daughter is getting bullied.
How about talking about stuff?

Am I the only one who is disturbed about the fact that everyone feels sorry for a woman who tried to kill her husband? JT is getting weirder. A young woman kills her baby and people blame society, the government, and the husband who didn't help her. An old woman tries to kill her husband and people blame society, the government, and one even tried to talk about adulterous, slave-driving husbands.
How about this for a change. Citizens, don't kill people! (Even if you are tired, worn out, depressed, or ..... too embarrassed to tell someone you can't cope).
Strange how so many people in this country can muster the courage to go to the cops and say they've just killed their child/spouse/ parent, but a few hours/days/weeks before, they couldn't go to the city office/hospital/temple/church/friends and say they can't cope and need help.
Talk to someone instead of killing.

"China now "dominates" the economic" stability" of most nations with their "extremely low priced products" and faces the criticism of nations scrutinizing their move to "dominate" and "control" the world economy by directly and indirectly "buying up" the natural resources with monies they gained from subsidizing the "extravagant consumption habits" they created all over the world."
Interesting. People used to say that about Japan a few decades ago...

If there's one thing that bug's be it's these cowardly right wing nutjobs in Japan who criticize the US every chance they get, but they just love to talk tough to China and talk about how the US will send in the marines to help them.
Kentarou, Yuri Otani and others... grow up! The LDP should concentrate more on fixing all the other problems Japan has without playing tough guy and then running to the US for help.

@tkoind, stories like the one about your friend on the train really get to me. I can understand why some women are too scared to do anything, but I long for the day when people realize that if they all stand up to one lone punk then they can win.
And I understand you totally. My dad's almost 80 but he'd go to the aid of a damsel in distress and go down fighting. And if he ended up in hospital over it, he'd probably do the same thing again.
the good people of the world have to start standing up to the punks.
