I go to disagree with this - having someone who shoots on sight instead of playing the millionth pass is a godsend for Japan. It's kind of accpeted to frown on players who shoot when a pass is on but if you play or watch a lot of football, this doesn't really pan out in practice. The extra pass adds an extra degree of uncertainty in that it has to be a good pass, the receiving player's control and balance etc has to be good, and very often the player doesn't even manage to get a shot off. Shooting wildly from 40 yards is another thing, but Honda doesn't do that - he IS a team player, he's just that bit better (and more direct) than his teammates.
For the last two matches Japan's attacking threat has come from the rapid interchanging of the front three Kagawa, Maeda and Okazaki that pulled the Saudi and Qatari defences all over the place. The match might hinge on whether this works against the even quicker and more tactically astute Koreans, as I'm sure Korea will score one or two at the other end.

She posts about my bad habits to strangers on an internet forum - that really gets my goat.

For the Tokyo commuters I don't think Smartphones have made much of a difference - staring at an iphone while bumping randomly into peple has simply replaced staring at their feet (or to the side, or in the air, or anywhere but in front) while bumping randomly into people.

Well Smith that was anything but a yawn-fest! Great spirit and professionalism again from Japan.

Qatar have had two consecutive shutouts and I'd expect a tough game for Japan, but they should nick it by the odd goal. After the last game though, it might be a shock to the system to play against defenders who mark-up and don't leave gaping 10m-wide channels to run into.

Brilliant! In one comment you managed to completely miss the point of my analogy, insert partisan politics where it wasn't necessary and falsely equate the political parties of 1870 with those of 2010. Outstanding work!

??? It was his inauguration speech. The only reason it was in a church was because he decided to give this political speech (wait for it) in a church, which only reinforces rather than negates his comments about viewing Christians and non-Christians differently. And going by your odd logic it would be okay for an elected official make vile racist comments if it was only in front of KKK members, cos it's just speaking to your audience you know.

Looks like he's flourishing under Brad Gilbert. Japanese tennis could use a top male player.

No need to explain. It's well understood she has a godawful understanding of world affairs, history, culture, economics, the environment, basically anything thats happened outside of Alaska so this comment wasn't surprising at all.
BTW if Sarah wants to learn about people who've been unfairly blamed for the violent actions of others, I've got some Muslim friends she can talk to.

Oops that's not right, is they lose to Saudi then both are on 4 points. If Jordan then beat Syria Japan are out, if Syria beat Jordan then Jordan go through and Japan are out. If they draw it goes to goal diff between Japan, Syria and Saudi.
A draw or win against Saudi and Japan are through.

Kitagawa, Japan aren't in the quarter-finals yet. If they lose to Saudi Arabia by more goals than Jordan lose to Syria they are out. Any other scenario and they're through, probably 95% certain to make it but still not 100%!

Missed this as it was past my bedtime... but Japan looking in a much beter position now. Only a draw required against the Saudis to go through.

I think it's more the anonymity of the person you're arguing with (rather than your own) or more specifically the depersonalizing way they're reduced to a simple moniker that leads people to argue this way. Going a step further I'd suggest it's then the ability to form your own idea of who your 'opponent' is - a 'leftist', a 'wingnut', a 'denier', a 'zealot' etc. leading to people arguing against an image & personality they've created, and since this image becomes your first impression it can endure even when the person's arguments don't fit with it. Notice that even just having your photo as an avatar affects the way people will treat you.
Interestingly, since people have largely a blank slate to work off they often tend to project their own personality onto others, and so the way these assume others to be largely gives you an idea of the kind of person they are.

Don't know if this is related, but apparently police searching their home also found a large tank of ooze in their basement.

Depending on other results, Japan could now be in a position where they have to beat Saudi Arabia to be sure of going through - NOT a good situation. But it's the usual striker problem for Japan. I'm surprised he took Maeda off at half-time, he got poor service and may have been a bigger threat when Japan dominated the 2nd half.
The coach now has to consider whether to go the Okada World Cup route and play Honda up front to have a physical presence there who can link up with the midfield.

What a silly statement. If religions were in possession of the "ultimate sense of reality" then science wouldn't have been consistently disproving various religious beliefs for the last couple of millenia or so.

That was a genuine request for information but thanks for your valuable input. Maybe I shoulde elaborate:
Out of this sizeable subset (probably around 200-ish) to my eyes I don't see anything that stands out from your average shop sign in the city. I'm presuming then that the criteria the judges are using are not exactly the same as what I would use (e.g. creative fonts)
