boobug,"This is nothing short of a shocking victory for the USA ! For a group of ragtag minor league calibre ball players to take the Bronze medal "

u don't really follow MLB. do u? then u probably know that most of best pitchers, best catchers, golden glove winners, best hitters (hits as well as homers) are from other countries. let all them go home to play for their own countries, then the US can still win something... Bronze if not dropped before Olympics. so, it's quite fair.

Olympic medal rankings From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The whole idea of ranking a country by medal count has always been a controversial issue in determining top ranking.[1] Most of the world's media ranks in the 'gold first' manner, with the number of golds determining rank, then number of silvers, then the number of bronzes. The US media has for many years generally ranked countries in an 'overall total' manner, with all medals being added up and a ranking based on which country has the most[2]. Some individuals promote a systematic ranking based upon a point system with the greater points awarded to a gold medal.

The IOC is not allowed to produce an official ranking by the terms of the Olympic charter. It has taken the approach of releasing 'information' based on the 'gold first' standard, but the medal tables provided on its website carry this disclaimer:

“ The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognise global ranking per country; the medal tables are displayed for information only. Furthermore, the results that we publish are official and are taken from the "Official Report" - a document published for each Olympic Games by the Organising Committee. However, for the first Olympic Games (until Antwerp in 1920), it is difficult to give the exact number of medals awarded to some countries, due to the fact that teams were composed of athletes from different countries. The medal tables by country are based on the number of medals won, with gold medals taking priority over silver and bronze. A team victory counts as one medal. ” —International Olympic Committee

it's Olympics tradition that the rank of the whole game is according to the medal count of the GOLD! That including the game of 1984 LA olympics and 1996 Atlanta olympics and all other 27 Olympics games. Let the truth speak!

The problem of 'some' American is that they think they are always better than others. Anyway, it's true for something:

no 1 SILVER medal count of Olympic 2008. no 1 BRONZE medal count of Olympic 2008. no 1 natural resource (oil.....) consumption. no 1 CO2 release. no 1 nuke/MDW weapons owned no 1 .........

Quite a question! I can’t answer. However, I do know what I hope for Japan: Japan is the only Asia country really get western strength like advanced science, techniques, democratic social system….etc., BUT, for hundreds of years, it’s true the rising of the west together with conquering, colonization, resource robbing, killing of weak… mark the dark side of the west. I hope Japanese to keep his deep inside oriental spirit to voice for weak people of Asia and help the Asian. Japanese is lucky to be so advanced so he got this burden ! I hope Japanese reject to be follower of some greedy western action and stand up to be leader of righteous weak-help oriental spirit. BTW, I don’t have bias against many a good wake up western !

USAPatriot: " Bush has no fears over China , nor does McCain. If they step out of line they will be nuked back to the stone age, and they know it."

Nuke war only guarantee all of the people kicked back to the stone age. however, Human nowadays are still not really far from barbarian, good thing is that a nuke winter probably can save the earth, and bad thing is that poor people may feel good to die together with the rich people.

I support that all of the nuke weapons on earth be destroyed, including those ones owned by China, the US, Russia.... etc.

USAPatriot; " Badsey; The US does not need more military in Japan. However Taiwan may be a good place for some bases. That would keep the chinese in check. Hee Hee! "

Booooo~~ it's easier said than done! the US don't even dare to let Taiwan president visit the US without China's 'APPROVAL', no mention to set up bases. And let me know when and where the US ever beat China's Amy after WWII? I personally still quite like America if you don't keep Heck!! Heck!! Heck!!

Let's use another way to describe this issue:

It's like that everyone wants to run his own business, but it's very difficult to do that so most of us work in a big company, then we don't need to worry about market competition or economic recession ....etc. Japan is working in " the US company " today! Japan did run it's own company some 70 years ago but failed and then decided to give up and join a big company. If you have saved some money and want to leave this company today then you take your risk/chance.... it's as simple as that!

" "Anybody else smell pork? Cue massive construction contracts..." It is sizzling in an LDP "fry pan" right now. "

you guys are right, but i don't want to mention LDP... because i don't know. my point is that Japan's infrastructure of flood-resist system is already far advanced than most of countries including the US, so worry about other things first~

    What a rough question?

It depends on whom u ask this question! you ask atheletes? or fans? or businessmen? or the host city/country? the country got good/bad ranking? or u even want to ask "do this world should cease this activity forever to save energy and save the earth...." there can be 1 million answers!

It's nightmare for all parents! Please ask your children to be very cautious outdoors, the society today is as dangerous as forest! we never heard wild life or dog ever feel free when some strangers passed by or even closed, so we also need to behave like that.

    Hi, Mr JoeBigs:

let's play a game: suppose an angry N Korean just change couple words to rewrite your openion as following:

"Kim Il Jong is really a Big Monchichi dolls.....Only way to make him give up the hostages is to force China who is the real hands behind his strings....."

    to

"Jp gov is really a Big Monchichi dolls.....Only way to make him give up the hostages is to force US who is the real hands behind his strings....."

How do u think about it? so, forget about China. and no matter u like it or not, Korea will be Japan's neighbor for next thousands of years. even S Korean is not very happy about Japan, isn't it? what else except 'Forgive' can u do?

"Kim Il Jong is really a Big Monchichi dolls.....Only way to make him give up the hostages is to force China who is the real hands behind his strings....."

The best way is to forgive and forget these matters what happened 2~3 decades ago, and do u know how many Chinese & Korean were killed by Japanese another 2~3 decades before this?
