Product of the town where I last lived in Niigata - Kameda (now subsumed into Niigata City). There's a Japanese shop up the road from here that sells them, so we occasionally treat ourselves.
Did anyone see the news that it's suspected that Ichihashi's father committed suicide last September? It was reported in the Daily Telegraph, but allegedly, Japanese privacy laws prevent anyone finding out for sure.
I suspect something's been lost in translation with the "we dearly love our school" bit - not much different from the import of school songs such as "Floreat Rugbeia", really.
It's a pity that this child felt he had no other option than to end his life. There's nothing wrong…
