    The death rate for handguns in the US is 12,000 per year. Even if your number the dead and families of the dead due to gun violence I am sure would not care. Only a gun nut would say 10,000 murders are justified by the infantile desire to have guns. Japan has 100 gun deaths a year versus US thousands. Even a NRA member can figure out why that is.

    The fact is if you have guns in your home in the USA you have a higher chance of being killed than if you do not.

    In 2010 the republicans ran their election on jobs, now they vote down the jobs bill. And they have proposed nothing at all on their own. The only jobs republicans care about are for the super rich. The other 99% of Americans can get along with their help. Bailouts for the rich and nothing for the rest, that is the republican formula. Has been for decades, since Reagan. Which is why the economy is in near depression now.

    I am sorry, who cares about crimes committed in 1977? This is a non-issue that will never be resolved. The LDP Abe made this issue topic A in order to be PM for a year, until he quit the job because it was too hard.

    Palin a few weeks ago was asking her supports to contribute money to her website so she could make up her mind on running for President. I guess she has enough money now from the right wing rubes so that she could say no. Amazing how gullible conservatives are. Hey rubes, send me money too so I can decide not to run as well.

    Zurcronium - we had hoped to keep that under wraps. The media has cooperated for the most part. The mosque opened in an area close to Anthony Wiener's old district.The repub Turner used it in an and WON Anthony Wiener's old seat - whcih had been held by a Democrat for 80 plus years. The district is 3 to 1 Democrat but the repub won. Please, try to get more informed.

    Lieberman2012, that congressional district will be eliminated in a year via redistricting, everyone knows that who follows the news. Sorry you have so little to say about the mosque being opened now, despite your many, many, many posts as it was being planned. Its tough when you can cannot cut and paste from rightwing blogs that cut and paste from the republican party that cut and paste from Rove, is it not?

As-long-as the vending machines are where minors cannot use them, there is no reason for them to be banned. Is Britain no longer a country where freedom is important to it's citizens?

    Only a right winger would equate freedom with lung cancer. The fact is when a smoker gets cancer we all pay via taxes or insurance premiums for his hospital bills. Only four year olds and libertarians think we live in this world alone.

    Over 50 percent of republicans, the whole party not just the tea bag types, thought Obama was born in Kenya. Even today with his birth certificate now public, 20% of republicans think he was born in Kenya. Another totally fake manufactured political issue meant to confuse the simple minded conservatives. It like catnip for cats. But for a large segment of the US population such lies work. As noted above Obama has now wiped out the terrorist types, including OBL, which bush had 7 years to do but did nothing. But you will hear from the limbaugh clones on this board how the US is less safe today than under bush. Facts belong to liberals I guess as republicans cannot handle the truth it seems.

    What is not in the news is the opening of the ground zero mosque a few days ago. The normal suspects posting endlessly about this being an attack on american was all over this website. Six months later the center opens and not a peep. Just proves that the conservatives do not think for themselves, they just repeat what fox news and Limbaugh tells them to say. Perfect example of how empty the tea bag movement really is. Its all manufactured outrage repeated by the vast right wing echo chamber.

    not a good idea, a great idea. If kids start smoking in their teens they are 95% certain to be hooked on nicotine for the rest of their lives. And of course eventually they die of lung cancer.

    Hopefully the DPJ will sell off JT and then after ban the cancer vending machines.

    dont worry, your taxes will go the cancer your second hand smoke caused in others around you while you smoked for 32 years. 44,000 people per year die due to second hand smoke. You no doubt contributed to that total in the last 32 years.

    Feel better now about your tax payments? You may have quit smoking, good for you, but you still have the smokers selfishness going strong.
