putting a few politicians in jail will make the country stronger, too

NHK, the Ministry of Truth, deserves a lot of credit for disseminating sunny optimism at every turn. I'm not being negative or sarcastic here; I really believe that the kind of cheerleading it's been doing is helping to distract people's sentiments from what is a very, very scary situation. The trade, industrial and other economic indicators (employment, consumer price index, purchasing patterns, etc.) are uniformly gloomy. The real question I suppose is whether or not Japan can get a semblance of a recovery under way before the next monster quake hits somewhere else.

Stronger how? The government can't set aside its petty like issues for the country, how will the public?

Make the country stronger? Sure, after all, wasn't it radiation that made the Incredible Hulk so strong?

Japan will rise again, if they change the law and say a PM has to stay in office for three years.

If it weren't for the nuclear crisis added to the mess I would agree 100%, but sadly that's probably going to get worse before it gets better, and due to the costs it will incur that will plunge the nation into further debt and higher taxes. Add to that the fact that TEPCO will probably be allowed to survive and continue to cause scandals, and that politicians only care about their own names in lights and it's hard to see Japan coming out strong in the near future at the earliest.

And you actually offered to be PM on another thread? Yes, let's get someone horrible and have them stay three years. Bush anyone??
