It's a Japanese company, and still manufactures airbags in Shiga-ken and Saga-ken. Whether the airbags were made in NC, SC, WA, Mexico, China or Germany, the automakers who bought them thought they were getting Japanese quality, a key unique selling point for Takata.

Wonder howany will die on unrelated accidents traveling to the dealer to fix the airbag.

What is going on at Toyota? No more than five years ago they were considered the highest quality automobiles in the world, ranked ahead of Mercedes Benz. If this is a foreign sourced component, maybe they need to bring this home?

It doesn't say anything about where the airbags are made. Depending on the brand and the model, a lot of components for Japanese automobiles assembled in North America come from Japan.

If there are ANY, I wonder how many of them would have survived with a properly functioning airbag? I doubt there would be any sort of statistically significant number of accidents on the way to get their airbags replaced - never mind fatalities during those accidents.

The Justice Department is doing what it loves to do: Investigate. Just because they are investigating does not mean there was deceit on the part of Takata. Whether there was deceit or not is what the investigation is (hopefully) going to determine.

I believe there's problem with quality control and supervising at factory.

I'm not surprised most Toyota models are relatively unaffected except the really inexpensive ones, like Corolla.

This isn't a leaky oil filter seal. Death and injury from getting hit by shrapnel from malfunctioning airbags is something that should never happen.

They make their auto parts such as seat belts in Japan (Shiga-ken) It exports to USA from Japan. No record of made in Mexico. they make with their company in Shiga Pref. That is why Justice Dept tell Japanese, not Mexican.

The investigation by the U.S. attorney's office is in very early stages. Takata has not been accused of any wrongdoing. I would wait until investigation is complete with facts before drawing a conclusion.
