3-year-old boy dies after being thrown against wall by mother

Police in Tamamura, Gunma Prefecture, said Monday they have arrested a 32-year-old woman over the death of her 3-year-old son.

According to police, Yusuke Tamura died from sustained head injuries after being violently thrown into a wall by his mother at their home. TBS quoted police as saying the incident occurred at around 5 p.m. on Aug 29.

Police said the mother, Akiko Tamura, turned herself in at a police station at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and said the body of her son was in her car.

An autopsy, conducted on Sunday, showed that the boy may have been subject to physical abuse on a regular basis as there were bruises all over his body, TBS reported.

Police quoted the boy's mother, Akiko Tamura, as saying she threw her child against the wall after getting angry at him for not listening to her.

Tamura's husband and the couple's three other children were not home over the weekend, police said.

Police said Tamura was arrested in 2010 over the death of her second oldest son, but she received a suspended sentence.

Killed two of her children, long drop with a short rope for her?

Nope, she turned herself in at a police station at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and said the body of her son was in her car.

Shows remorse, and she will receive a suspended sentence. Again.

What an obscenity!

Japan should make an example of whoever let her out on that one.

If the father had been the one who killed the first son, he definitely would have been given prison time, and there would have been much more outrage directed toward him.

Even though child abuse by mothers in Japan seems to be more prevalent than abuse by fathers, the courts/society nearly always seem to let these abusers off easy. They hold tight to the myth of a universal maternal instinct to have the best interest of the child at heart, going as far as to even justify horrendous behavior on the part of mothers (ie. it wasn't her fault due to postpartum depression, it was the husband's fault for not giving her enough support, etc.)

When will they ever learn?

It's amazing that she only got a suspended sentence for killing another son and was still allowed to keep her other children. The authorities are utterly useless.

Here's hoping she doesn't get a suspended sentence this time and try and finish off her other 3 children. What a horrible situation for those poor children to be in.

Perfect! So, obviously, there was no follow up by family services or any sort psychological examination. How about the husband? He had to be aware she was loony. Or, maybe he was in on it too! She may have killed her kid, but the lack of of a decent family services program in Japan is responsible for the death.

There was no way to prevent this death other than locking her up for good. She'll probably get 1 or 2 years and be free again.

Apparently, she has been refusing to let CPS visit her home since April.

With here criminal record, I find it shocking that she was able to refuse those visits. RIP Yusuke.

The State is culpable in this child's death.

So she`s killed 40% of her children? Man...what a cold place.

At the very least, she should have stopped having children after this. I would love to ask the judge, that suspended her sentence, how he feels about this recent child's death.

Killed one and got suspended sentence ... Killed another one and will get another suspended sentence ... Very good Japanese system

This cuts both ways. She killed her second-oldest son in 2010, yet her husband saw fit to have ANOTHER child (for a total of five) with her after she was released on a suspended sentence. WTF is he thinking?!?!

murdered two of her kids.....if this doesn't get life in prison, I honestly don't know what would.

This story breaks my heart.

The judge who issued the suspended sentence should be charged as an accessory to murder of a child, or at least disbarred. Since there was a sentence from the death of the elder child (albeit suspended) there was obviously a conviction, yet the judge allowed the mother to care for other children?

Soon she'll be let out and she'll be free to kill the rest of her children. Seriously the courts just don't care.

That poor three year old. What little life he had was hell. This woman at the very least should be kept away from her children.

So, she was arrested for the death of one child, and then went on to have another??? why was this allowed?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Justice for child in Japan is hard to come by.

Can you imagine the fear the kids live in? Especially the oldest kid. He/She knows that his/her mom killed two of his/her brothers. These kids need psychiatric help but there's no way they'll get it here in Japan. So sad...

I think I called this one back in 2010. Too many times in Japan this kind of thing happens, and the women who literally murder their children are let off with suspended sentences or at worst a year and a half or so in prison. The judges' rationale? "They have other children and a child should never be without the care of its mother!"

Well, now we see what such care provides. RIP to this little boy and his sibling murdered before -- and shame on the mother and the system for allowing it to happen.

That may be true for homicide but not for DV... (not only committed against the mother).

Charges and sentences on endangering the welfare of a minor or child need a complete make over in this country. Children must be protected at all cost
