79-year-old woman stabbed to death in Shizuoka home

Police in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, said Tuesday that a 79-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her home.

According to police, the body of Eiko Sone was found in the kitchen by her 48-year-old son after he returned home from work at around 7 p.m. on Monday. TBS quoted police as saying that the elderly woman was lying on the kitchen floor, with blood streaming from her neck.

Police said the murder weapon has not yet been found and have mobilized 100 officers to search the neighborhood and interview local residents. A neighbor reported seeing Sone in the garden of her house at around 11 a.m.

The son, who lived alone with his mother, said she had been in good spirits when he left for work in the morning, police said. He was also quoted by police as saying that it appeared nothing had been stolen.

I know this may sound super obvious, but did anyone question the son?

I have to agree that the son is a suspect, its seems it's becoming a sad trend the last while.

I'm not about to "accuse" anyone but, if there was no "forced entry" I think that means that it's about time the Japanese people learned to lock their doors...

It would be nice to know if any of her neighbors reported seeing her anytime after the son left for work. That would take some suspicion off him.

A neighbour interviewed by a media reporter talked in vague terms about previous "trouble." Police might do well to look past the obvious family member and begin by interviewing the fellow living next door -- the one with the black luxury cars shod with over-the-top aftermarket wheels.

Its not very difficult to be able to tell when a person was stabbed, to a matter of hours. Im assuming that the stabbing took place in between the time that the son left for work and returned, and that this has already been verified by forensics.

Im also assuming that the sons workplace and commute (ie, travel card or train station cameras) can verify he was where he said he was.

Yes adult children murdering their parents happens a lot. However it would be insane that the police automatically suspect this guy, and search for no-one else, just because he lives with her and he was unlucky enough to be the one who found her body.

Actually it would be the other way around, it would be insane to not automatically consider him the prime suspect.

What? Even if he had an alibi? Like work?
