It's simple. Women's body perform the function of carrying the fetus. If she was running the streets, in the club, possessive and self-centered before pregnancy. She'll just revert to her normal self but now she's in charge of a child.

Before launching into a contraception tirade, it is essential to figure out if she wanted the children, the father(s) wanted the children (unlikely), or if they were one, both or all just careless or insane.
Sure, she had options. But it was still men who impregnated her, wasn't it? The men get the lion's share of the blame for the pregnancies, because they surely knew what they were doing. But who was the father? Or who were the fathers? And where the hell were they?
I don't know if she is evil or crazy, but obviously the blame is on her for the boy's death. And three times now? She should have a choice of lots of jail or a little jail plus sterilization. Or if she is crazy, time in a mental ward plus sterilization. But the father(s) being irresponsible sods contributing to the whole situation, particularly for making babies they apparently did not want, should simply have the choice of jail or sterilization. It takes two to tango, but lets not forget its the man who leads the dance. But of course once the baby is made the ball is in the mother's court, and she fumbled bigger and last.

The thing is, I think family issues like having children really get complicated.
Whether they were pressured by other family to start having or they thought they wanted kids before they had kids, the Department of Child Services here obviously needs an overhaul. I know a lot of people personally feel that the US Gov is way to involved in raising kids now, but there is always the yahoo chatting alternative.

She was married (to the father of all 4 boys I believe) but got divorced two years ago. Witnesses on the news said that she didn't change the baby's diapers etc. and was lazy. What I want to know is how these people sleep at night. How can a whole community notice what goes on and do nothing? The second child died in a tragic accident - one which is all too common here in Japan as well as other countries, and if you recall the case of Eric Clapton's boy, can happen to anyone, because however much care is given, it only takes a couple of seconds.
Which would make her a mother who's lost 2 children, whose 3rd child (according to a poster here) is in care for reasons here unknown, and who is deeply troubled, depressed, probably neglects her own care never mind a child's, and is most certainly in need of some serious therapy and care herself.
No, she shouldn't have been left in the sole care of an infant. Whose fault is that? The family, the neighbours, the authorities, were aware things are not / may not be right, and did sod all.

Can you make the same excuses for three times? Sorry, but this woman was in chat rooms while her THIRD child lay dying. What's her response to police? "Raising children is a hassle". Sounds more like she was inconvenienced than suffering any trauma. We don't need to know any more details or make any more excuses for the likes of this woman -- she wants to treat human life so casually, she should be treated equally as such.
If it were the father would you be asking such questions about mentality? Probably not. For some weird reason a lot of people feel the need to try and rationalize the actions of a psychopath if it's a woman. Quite frankly I'm as sick of the weekly reports of mom's letting kids fall off balconies or leaving them at home alone while they go off to pachinko or just murdering them as I am sick of reading about the boyfriend of a divorcee killing her child(ren).

Other news site say that the last child was removed after they found this child dead. The living child is in foster care because of the death of its younger brother. This woman was told that her child was sick and had a fever. Also the Police found data on her computers showing that she was in chat room constantly. She knew the baby had pneumonia and didnt take him to the hospital, she didnt even change his diaper before he died.
Fair enough, maybe people shouldnt be so aggressive about how they talk about this woman but in this case they do have the right too. This wasnt some random mistake. How do you go a whole day without feeding a baby and not think that something is wrong.

So sad. I had only 1 child because of toxemia( a dangerous pregnancy related illness) and he was born premature by c-section, but he is now a healthy and happy young man. The only times he had accidents were when he was at school!
I feel that women in Japan rely too much on their mothers to help them when they have a baby. I didn't have anyone to help me here in Japan but I asked a baby day care center to look after him when I was working.

JT translation, while excellent in terms of speed, is occasionally off the mark with certain word/phrase selections.
It certainly does raise an image. I can raise another one. What if she said - "Raising a child is incredibly hard and I don't think I can do it any more."
Nothing you said is counter to anything I wrote, except for that last part you wrote "...not think that something is wrong."

I doubt she said "too much hassle". The original was probably along the lines of something like "sugoi tai hen da naa" which could translate as "too much hassle", but not unambiguously so, and it is not necessarily a bad thing for an exasperated parent to say.
In English when we say too much hassle, it usually has the meaning that something is very difficult or inconvenient, and consequently that we are giving up (corresponding to something like "tai hen dakara akiramechau yo").
It's better find the original if you're going to criticize what someone said, rather than quoting a translation. That's like being one step away in the game of telephone.
This poor woman is going to live a life filled with regret.
I think that after losing that first child, she was not in a sound mind any more. Ignoring a child who has a fever and not noticing that the child died is a sign of mental illness. One definition of mental illness is that it's a condition which prevents an individual from functioning.

she left him for 21 hours after he died. he was lying on the bed, in soiled diapers, dead for 21 hours.
the daycare people come to her house in the morning to ask why she didn't bring the kids to day care, and she said the little one soiled his diaper and she's going to wash him first and then take him to daycare. she called after a few hours and said that a terrible thing happened. indeed, it makes one's blood boil

It's so sad and frustrating to read articles like this over and over. Something must be terribly wrong in a society where laws protect more the old than the young, where a child murdered or left to die is less important than a man in his 60's. I've been discussing this subject with a very close Japanese friend of mine who is a historian and I've been told something about the value between a young child and a senior in Asian countries, especially Japan, Korea and China. It would explain a bit why we are still dealing with weak useless laws that generally allow child abusers/murderers walk free or with a suspended sentence. Killing/Abusing a child is too different from killing a grown adult. It seems they place more value on the eldest. Complicated issue but I hope you get the idea.
I really hope Joint custody can become law someday soon. Not all women are qualified to have or raise children. I have seen single fathers that would put those women to shame. The whole idea of (some) irresponsible mentally unstable or just simply evil women being given the preference over responsible, devoted and loving fathers makes me shudder.

The case of Eric Clapton has no bearing in this. The window was left open by a cleaner, not Eric. Eric has hasn't had three children die in his care.
I am willing to give that the first could have been a tragic mistake. The second? Nope. Falling out of a window, more so when she's already had one child die on here, is neglect. You'd think she's be a helicopter mom after everything. Now this? The women is clearly insane. The husband is clearly insane to keep knocking this woman up. The system here is clearly insane for a) not addressing her mental health needs and b) not punishing mothers like her who have children die due to neglect.
21 hours that poor child was left there died, In a soiled diaper. 21 hours without even thinking of feeding or changing a diaper because she was so damn busy online. Daycare? Why does this women even get daycare if she's not working? Many others out there who would also love to just drop off their kids and have someone else raise them as it seems this woman was doing. Don't have kids if you don't want to look after them. Clearly this woman didn't understand what goes into being a mom.

She'd have to be dead, imprisoned, in a (mental) hospital or give up custody on her own accord before the father becomes eligible and then he would still need to win the kid(s) over from the mother's parents who are next in line. Also in our country the first "accident" at her negligence would have had her on the radar of Childrens Services. In fact they would probably take her children and monitor her. We have a (sometimes over zealous) protection agency for Children here do they not have such a thing in Japan?

Hate to be cynical but after reading up on this, I bet the three year old's death was down to neglect too. Neighbours reported seeing the baby ''unchanged and dirty' and evidence of 'lazy parenting'. Two mothers sitting on a park bench last week chatting- phones out, the works. One of their lads takes a nose dive behind my back (I babysit my own lad and watch every kid in the park like Superman). Anyway this kid about 4 lands on his head and screams itai... I pick the kid up and check his vitals/eyes and I tell the mother to get him a CAT scan. Mother says OK Gaijin with a smile... back to chatting. Kid is screaming for 30 minutes itai... I hope I am making point.
As a Dad myself who works I don't think we can fight this anymore guys. Parenting skills and care has taken a dive in many places. The Internet... Jesus I'm writing on it. This woman needs help but I doubt will she will change and she will never see prison. I would say implicate a foster care system in Japan but their culture is against that. However, the teachers at my kids Hoiken are awesome so don't be quick to judge on the women... I have noticed (no offense) the lower class as in the USA are crappy parents. She may have no remorse but there is a social effect here...that the woman cares more about a stranger through a PC than here own kid so I hope the docs here use her sad case (and the 3 dead souls) and study up...and perhaps hold a protest to get the guv to wake up for foster care. I would leave it up to the courts to assign blame and punishment/treatment.
For various reasons I am also involved with protective services, they are currently looking after son due to me spending 2-months in Hospital and recovering from a major surgery.
Found them rather good and they do checkups and contacts regularly, atleast in my City.
By law though they can't enter the property unless given permission, so it is easy to run them off at the doorstep without letting them see inside the Ap.. etc.

The father is most likely a scumbag.I am not sure if he was the father of all four children or not, but should have been terribly suspicious of her having one child in social services. With her wonderful track record I am sure that if he wanted to, he could have taken this child from her in family court, but he didn't and we have no idea why now? I think, even in Japan where mother's get the children in 75~80% of the contested divorces this would have been a slam dunk for him. But remember we don't know anything about him. He might have a criminal record? He might be a yakuza? We just don't know. Is he the father of one child or all of them? Was he trying to get custody? We just don't know. Therefore we can't just assume some things, and not others. Choosing to assume that he has some fault in this is ridiculous. She was in charge of the child. If anyone is to blame it is the mother and child services. As for the father, I would rather spit on him than anything else. But I can't lay blame on him, because I know nothing about him. I can lay blame on her because she was responsible and the child was in her care.
Lay blame where it lies and let's stop making excuses. We are an excuse ridden society, and the people who are blaming the father or previously negative relations with men, are just letting their emotions run roughshod over their logic.

Maria, I didn't see your post until tonight. I've looked at 8-10 sources, none say what the baby that died right after birth was afflicted with , just 'shusan chokugo byouki de' . The only quote I've found so far from the mother is -
She lost all interest in child rearing and wanted healing.
The daycare center she uses told her to take the boy to the hospital and get him treated. It seems he had pneumonia.

It's simple. Women's body perform the function of carrying the fetus. If she was running the streets, in the club, possessive and self-centered before pregnancy. She'll just revert to her normal self but now she's in charge of a child.

Before launching into a contraception tirade, it is essential to figure out if she wanted the children, the father(s) wanted the children (unlikely), or if they were one, both or all just careless or insane.
Sure, she had options. But it was still men who impregnated her, wasn't it? The men get the lion's share of the blame for the pregnancies, because they surely knew what they were doing. But who was the father? Or who were the fathers? And where the hell were they?
I don't know if she is evil or crazy, but obviously the blame is on her for the boy's death. And three times now? She should have a choice of lots of jail or a little jail plus sterilization. Or if she is crazy, time in a mental ward plus sterilization. But the father(s) being irresponsible sods contributing to the whole situation, particularly for making babies they apparently did not want, should simply have the choice of jail or sterilization. It takes two to tango, but lets not forget its the man who leads the dance. But of course once the baby is made the ball is in the mother's court, and she fumbled bigger and last.

The thing is, I think family issues like having children really get complicated. Whether they were pressured by other family to start having or they thought they wanted kids before they had kids, the Department of Child Services here obviously needs an overhaul. I know a lot of people personally feel that the US Gov is way to involved in raising kids now, but there is always the yahoo chatting alternative.

She was married (to the father of all 4 boys I believe) but got divorced two years ago. Witnesses on the news said that she didn't change the baby's diapers etc. and was lazy. What I want to know is how these people sleep at night. How can a whole community notice what goes on and do nothing? Some of you are acting as though she's responsible for the deaths of all 3 children.
If her first child died a few days after birth, wouldn't she and the baby still have been in hospital? Which makes the death not her fault.
The second child died in a tragic accident - one which is all too common here in Japan as well as other countries, and if you recall the case of Eric Clapton's boy, can happen to anyone, because however much care is given, it only takes a couple of seconds.
Which would make her a mother who's lost 2 children, whose 3rd child (according to a poster here) is in care for reasons here unknown, and who is deeply troubled, depressed, probably neglects her own care never mind a child's, and is most certainly in need of some serious therapy and care herself.
No, she shouldn't have been left in the sole care of an infant. Whose fault is that? The family, the neighbours, the authorities, were aware things are not / may not be right, and did sod all.

Can you make the same excuses for three times? Sorry, but this woman was in chat rooms while her THIRD child lay dying. What's her response to police? "Raising children is a hassle". Sounds more like she was inconvenienced than suffering any trauma. We don't need to know any more details or make any more excuses for the likes of this woman -- she wants to treat human life so casually, she should be treated equally as such.
If it were the father would you be asking such questions about mentality? Probably not. For some weird reason a lot of people feel the need to try and rationalize the actions of a psychopath if it's a woman. Quite frankly I'm as sick of the weekly reports of mom's letting kids fall off balconies or leaving them at home alone while they go off to pachinko or just murdering them as I am sick of reading about the boyfriend of a divorcee killing her child(ren).

Other news site say that the last child was removed after they found this child dead. The living child is in foster care because of the death of its younger brother. This woman was told that her child was sick and had a fever. Also the Police found data on her computers showing that she was in chat room constantly. She knew the baby had pneumonia and didnt take him to the hospital, she didnt even change his diaper before he died.
Fair enough, maybe people shouldnt be so aggressive about how they talk about this woman but in this case they do have the right too. This wasnt some random mistake. How do you go a whole day without feeding a baby and not think that something is wrong.

So sad. I had only 1 child because of toxemia( a dangerous pregnancy related illness) and he was born premature by c-section, but he is now a healthy and happy young man. The only times he had accidents were when he was at school! I feel that women in Japan rely too much on their mothers to help them when they have a baby. I didn't have anyone to help me here in Japan but I asked a baby day care center to look after him when I was working.

I doubt she said "too much hassle". The original was probably along the lines of something like "sugoi tai hen da naa" which could translate as "too much hassle", but not unambiguously so, and it is not necessarily a bad thing for an exasperated parent to say.
In English when we say too much hassle, it usually has the meaning that something is very difficult or inconvenient, and consequently that we are giving up (corresponding to something like "tai hen dakara akiramechau yo").
It's better find the original if you're going to criticize what someone said, rather than quoting a translation. That's like being one step away in the game of telephone.
This poor woman is going to live a life filled with regret.
I think that after losing that first child, she was not in a sound mind any more. Ignoring a child who has a fever and not noticing that the child died is a sign of mental illness. One definition of mental illness is that it's a condition which prevents an individual from functioning.

It's so sad and frustrating to read articles like this over and over. Something must be terribly wrong in a society where laws protect more the old than the young, where a child murdered or left to die is less important than a man in his 60's. I've been discussing this subject with a very close Japanese friend of mine who is a historian and I've been told something about the value between a young child and a senior in Asian countries, especially Japan, Korea and China. It would explain a bit why we are still dealing with weak useless laws that generally allow child abusers/murderers walk free or with a suspended sentence. Killing/Abusing a child is too different from killing a grown adult. It seems they place more value on the eldest. Complicated issue but I hope you get the idea.
I really hope Joint custody can become law someday soon. Not all women are qualified to have or raise children. I have seen single fathers that would put those women to shame. The whole idea of (some) irresponsible mentally unstable or just simply evil women being given the preference over responsible, devoted and loving fathers makes me shudder.

The case of Eric Clapton has no bearing in this. The window was left open by a cleaner, not Eric. Eric has hasn't had three children die in his care.
I am willing to give that the first could have been a tragic mistake. The second? Nope. Falling out of a window, more so when she's already had one child die on here, is neglect. You'd think she's be a helicopter mom after everything. Now this? The women is clearly insane. The husband is clearly insane to keep knocking this woman up. The system here is clearly insane for a) not addressing her mental health needs and b) not punishing mothers like her who have children die due to neglect.
21 hours that poor child was left there died, In a soiled diaper. 21 hours without even thinking of feeding or changing a diaper because she was so damn busy online. Daycare? Why does this women even get daycare if she's not working? Many others out there who would also love to just drop off their kids and have someone else raise them as it seems this woman was doing. Don't have kids if you don't want to look after them. Clearly this woman didn't understand what goes into being a mom.

The lad with the fever died last June - 2011. The living child was taken into custody after that, as far as I can recall.

Uhm... Because this is Japan and in 99.9% of divorces the custody is automatically awarded to the mother? She'd have to be dead, imprisoned, in a (mental) hospital or give up custody on her own accord before the father becomes eligible and then he would still need to win the kid(s) over from the mother's parents who are next in line. This once again screams how the Japanese system of excluding fathers after divorce and no joint custody is WRONG!!! Another parent can detect these problems and intervene. Also in our country the first "accident" at her negligence would have had her on the radar of Childrens Services. In fact they would probably take her children and monitor her. We have a (sometimes over zealous) protection agency for Children here do they not have such a thing in Japan?

Hate to be cynical but after reading up on this, I bet the three year old's death was down to neglect too. Neighbours reported seeing the baby ''unchanged and dirty' and evidence of 'lazy parenting'. Two mothers sitting on a park bench last week chatting- phones out, the works. One of their lads takes a nose dive behind my back (I babysit my own lad and watch every kid in the park like Superman). Anyway this kid about 4 lands on his head and screams itai... I pick the kid up and check his vitals/eyes and I tell the mother to get him a CAT scan. Mother says OK Gaijin with a smile... back to chatting. Kid is screaming for 30 minutes itai... I hope I am making point.
As a Dad myself who works I don't think we can fight this anymore guys. Parenting skills and care has taken a dive in many places. The Internet... Jesus I'm writing on it. This woman needs help but I doubt will she will change and she will never see prison. I would say implicate a foster care system in Japan but their culture is against that. However, the teachers at my kids Hoiken are awesome so don't be quick to judge on the women... I have noticed (no offense) the lower class as in the USA are crappy parents. She may have no remorse but there is a social effect here...that the woman cares more about a stranger through a PC than here own kid so I hope the docs here use her sad case (and the 3 dead souls) and study up...and perhaps hold a protest to get the guv to wake up for foster care. Cmon Japanese, Brad and Angelina did it, you can too.

For various reasons I am also involved with protective services, they are currently looking after son due to me spending 2-months in Hospital and recovering from a major surgery.
Found them rather good and they do checkups and contacts regularly, atleast in my City. By law though they can't enter the property unless given permission, so it is easy to run them off at the doorstep without letting them see inside the Ap.. etc.

The father is most likely a scumbag.I am not sure if he was the father of all four children or not, but should have been terribly suspicious of her having one child in social services. With her wonderful track record I am sure that if he wanted to, he could have taken this child from her in family court, but he didn't and we have no idea why now? I think, even in Japan where mother's get the children in 75~80% of the contested divorces this would have been a slam dunk for him. But remember we don't know anything about him. He might have a criminal record? He might be a yakuza? We just don't know. Is he the father of one child or all of them? Was he trying to get custody? We just don't know. Therefore we can't just assume some things, and not others. Choosing to assume that he has some fault in this is ridiculous. She was in charge of the child. If anyone is to blame it is the mother and child services. As for the father, I would rather spit on him than anything else. But I can't lay blame on him, because I know nothing about him. I can lay blame on her because she was responsible and the child was in her care.
Lay blame where it lies and let's stop making excuses. We are an excuse ridden society, and the people who are blaming the father or previously negative relations with men, are just letting their emotions run roughshod over their logic.

She lost all interest in child rearing and wanted healing.
The daycare center she uses told her to take the boy to the hospital and get him treated. It seems he had pneumonia.
