OSAKA —

Police on Friday arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed the manager of a convenience store in Higashi-Osaka.

According to police, the suspect—identified as Taisei Ishii—came into the Circle K Sunkus store at about 10:15 a.m. Witnesses say he brought a bento to the counter and then heard him say to the 27-year-old manager, “Guys like you should die,” TBS reported. He then allegedly stabbed the manager with a cutter knife and fled on a bicycle, but was apprehended a short time later by police.

During questioning, Ishii was quoted by police as saying the store manager tried to stab him, TBS reported.
