Sony should offer " the interview" DVD free to the public as a counter measure against this criminal act. The damage has been done, so let be it. Make the free DVD available for N.Koreans to sit down and laugh for a change.

If a cuter actor is used for the role, N Korea might not be so upset. SONY goofed. Even not like real Kim, SONY should use cutest actor in Hollywood (Skinnier, tii)

How on earth could Sony give the OK to a movie like this? N. Korea is just next door! They were asking for trouble. Well, you get what you diserve.

The making of this movie is right up there with the visits by Dennis Rodman. Not very smart!

KJU is fat, stupid, and the leader of a failed state. All you need to know really. Totally want to see this movie to give NK the finger.

Maybe Sony's IT people could have, I dunno, done their jobs?

Sony pulled the movie from everywhere including DVD, VOD everywhere... Sony caved hardcore and it's so stupid

I think it is a shame that a US company was forced to not release a movie from threats from a foreign power. Where are my tax dollargs going for National Defence when the US Gov. has not really said anything about this or demanded that NK find out who did this and take actions.

If a car carrier (full of GM cars) pulling into Incheon with cars was sunk by a NK sub and cost GM up towards $200 million, I am sure that the US Govt would be all over such an incident, or when oil tankers were being shot at in the Persian Gulf and had to be escorted by the USN back in the 80's, it was an attack on free commerce fo US businesses and the government stepped up.

This incident is similar. Yes it is probably a very crappy movie, but the bottom line is that it was made and the company had the right to make it, and they were denied their ability to conduct business. Private companies are not allowed to do foreign policy, so I am really surprised that the US hasn't done much on this.

Of course, I am sure that there are some things going on behind the scenes (I hope) but I think a stronger response should be made by the US government.

Too much reality TV and too much weed blurred the line. Misplay by Rogen and Franco.

In Asia, losing face is the biggest disgrace. DPRK gets to slap Japan (Sony) and the US at the same time, and they will feel justified in doing so.

Should've kept the Adenoid Hynkel, King Jong Jon approach, IMHO. That's the way good satire has always worked in this part of the world, where a sense of humo(u)r in the often paranoid leader is often lacking.

There are precedents. In “The Great Dictator” (1940), Charlie Chaplin played a version of Adolf Hitler, dubbed Adenoid Hynkel.

In this day and age, a movie like "Casblanca" could not be made. Those were Nazi's who were the bad guys. What I predict will happen is Hollywood will fall back to their normal "bad guys" for movies. These will include the CIA, Christians, or some other "right wing" group that will not fight back as hard, in protest to being portrayed as a bad guy.

They even pulled the puppet movie 'Team America" that made fun of killing his father that some theaters were going to run to protest this but the studio that owns it stopped that idea.

I just keep being reminded of that old saying "when they came for me, no one was there to stop them" keeps popping up. Bottom line to all of this, Culver City, where Sony Pictures in the USA is located is a new provence of NK now since they bowed down for them.

I doubt the average North Korean has a DVD player or a computer for that matter. The only one who knows this news in North Korea are its government.

I don't know the exact plot of this movie but people think it is about a couple guys on a TV show hired by the CIA to pretend to do an interview with Kim Jong Un as a cover for trying to assassinate him.

Looking at the previews, it looks like they go to North Korea to do the assassination but end up liking him. Being that it is a comedy, I doubt the assassination is carried out and might even leave people with a favorable view of Kim Jong Un. Can't judge a film entirely by just reading the plot on IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes.

In the first line, what does "freshly stoned" mean?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@DaDude Considering there was definitely a scene with Kimmy dying and the overwhelming hatred of people outside China and NK for NK, I think it is safe to say it doesn't exactly leave people with a favorable view.

gokai-wo-maneku, read paragraph 11 again.

(re: In the first line, what does "freshly stoned" mean?)

Sony should 'accidentally leak' the film onto the internet as a MASSIVE F-YOU to NK and be done with it.

Sony should then spend more time and $$$$$ on securing their internet presence and back-end. I mean really, who throws a shoe?!?

gokai_wo_maneku: In the first line, what does "freshly stoned" mean?

Intoxicated on marijuana. From stoned (adjective describing the condition) and stoner (noun describing habitual marijuana user).

Rogen likely lit up a マリファナたばこ thus achieving "religious heights" ("宗教的な高み" as described in ja.wikipedia.org) in preparation for the interview.

(google translation)

The Drug culture, is a generic term subculture involved in drag to provide pleasure or hallucinations. Mainly developed around the San Francisco Bay Area of the United States, euphoria of winning and creativity of the exercise by drug use, it was the purpose of that approach to religious heights.

You know, I don't remember all this fuss over "Team America: World Police" and they didn't pull any punches with li'l Kim's dad... and he died in that one.

CNN channels and other entertianment channels comment speakers say if your country;s top person is depicted like this movie, you feel your country is insulted. That is about if bevause USA is too busy speaking with Cuba beside Middle East, Sounded media disapproved SONY Pictures creation.

If North Korea were to sink in the ocean then the movie could be released

In my view, Sony never should make such as movie about its neighbor N. Korean leader. As Japanese Company, Sony should aware of on going problems between N. Korea and Japan. N. Korea is ruling by Communist dictatorship regime. It never obeys International Law and they will do outside the law anything they wanted. Don't discount what hacker's threatening an attack on people who go out to see “The Interview” in Cinemas. There are no shortages of peoples who will die for their dear leader dictator Kim Jong-Un for return in good look after his or her family from state in N. Korea.

I have saw celebrities tweeting about blamed on Sony canceling for “The Interview” movie at Cinema. They don’t understand about Sony responsibility and what Sony was facing now. If there something terribly happened at movie opening day at theaters across America and then Sony will be reliable for lost of peoples’ lives and damages. Sony name will be sunk like stone and won't be recovered Sony name if N. Korean agents attacked "The Interview" show across US.

N. Korean agents’ assassination attempt on late S. Korean President Chun Do-hwan in 1983 in Rangoon Burma. The attack killed 21 peoples including 3 senior S. Korean Ministers. Communist N. Korean regime has long history of committing criminal activity in foreign soil and the regime is worst them any Mafia organization in the world. There's no law on earth which can prosecute N. Korean dictatorship regime so far.

Sony was stupid to allow making such as movie under Sony name. Sony should think about separating Hollywood movie business from other Sony businesses and let use the subsidy Company name only and remove Sony name from it. I have no doubt about that movie will make lot of money for Sony now regardless of good or poor. It has too much publicity now. Also it’s not good for International Company like Sony and Sony name should not involve in Movie that directly provocative against Communist leader.
