Paul McCartney cancels remaining concerts in Japan

I am sorry.. Even the surgically altered wig wearing McCartney needs to retire. He is too old for touring.. He is misinforming people about what they are getting with their ticket. It's not the Beatles, its not Wings, it's a tired old man who is trying to scrape a few last gold coins out of the golden goose. I feel sorry for him.

He is 71. Give him a break. If you book a ticket for his concert, you take the risk. As for money, he can afford the loss. I hope he had a good time in Japan.

Here's an alternative explanation from your sour, cynical opinion JoshuYaki. He's got more dough than you can ever dream of having so he isn't doing it for the money. He just loves performing and playing his music. Maybe he even has some nostalgia for his Beatles days. What's more, plenty of people, young and old want to see and hear him live. You wouldn't have made such negative comments, would you, about Louis Armstrong or Ella Fitzgerald who continued performing to the end.

If you don't know nothing about Paul McCartney's incredible trajectory as a musician then keep your nasty uneducated comments to yourself. Sir Paul is not touring because his an old geezer trying to make some money....wow. I'm so beyond myself after reading this. If you haven't seen the show, you don't know what you are missing, his energy on stage does not compare to any one. At 71 years old he is on top of his rocking game!!!!

Age has nothing to do with it. He's only 71. Anyone, young or old, can come down with a virus and some of them can be very, very, debilitating, For weeks or even months after the retching has stopped and the temperature has returned to normal, you can feel like hell.

Get well soon Sir Paul. Though I'll never forgive you for marrying that Linda instead of waiting for me to be old enough.

What a horrible thing to say, if McCartney wasn't up for the job, he would never have attempted to come to Japan. I truly admire him. Not that he needs the money. He is a multi-Billionaire with a capitol "B." You tell me how many 71 year olds with that kind of energy that can fill up a stadium, let alone entertain a huge audience for a few hours. Give the man some credit. The man is a legend an icon and worth the money. And even after he is gone, how many people will still play his music in the next hundred years? You think AKB will be remembered? You just don't get musicians like Paul anymore and probably won't for a very, very long time. If you don't like the guy, it's your right, but if I can reach 71 and be as fit as him, I will NOT complain. Hope Mr. McCartney has a speedy recovery.

are you trying to be ironic? age has EVERYTHING to do with it. it's no secret that older people have a harder time getting over simple illnesses. senior citizens (yes, he is one) die all the time because of minor ailments.

i do hope he is able to recover soon. fan or not, he deserves some common decency.

Get well soon, Mr. McCartney. At his advanced age, touring the world and performing for a few hours a night would be very taxing physically. I know a few elderly Japanese who are eagerly hoping he somehow makes it back to these shores down the track!

Mmm, not necessarily. When my whole family came down with a particularly nasty virus, the least affected and the first to recover was my (at the time) 86-yo mil. The 2yo retched and heaved and carried on playing, and it was the so-called prime-of-life 20-somethings who had the worst of it and who took longer to get back on their feet.

If Sir Paul had done a couple of concerts and then collapsed with exhaustion, the folk saying he needs to retire/he's too old to tour might have a point; but to blame the effects of a virus on old age is barking up the wrong tree.

To all saying he is too old I have this to say: I am not fan of him but he is hundred times better than some of the new musicians and idols we have to listen today!

I would be very happy to see him live but he is just too expensive !!! This is my only objection...

I've been to 3 big concerts this year and from what I hear his show last November beats them all. I can only envy people who could see him!

You're obviously too easily mystified. If only you'd stopped to think. Paul McCartney is a living legend and the "same tired repertoire" includes some of the greatest popular music ever written; music that will probably be played as long as humans inhabit the earth.

Not at all. The man is the single-most richest entertainer in the world. He lets people, against the concert contrators' wishes, take photos and video during performances instead of denying them and forcing them to buy jacked up memorabilia from stalls outside the venue, and is a genuine and very good person, it seems. It is a shame that he had to cancel due to sickness, and sorry Cloe, but the older a person gets, the worse a sickness is likely to linger -- not always the case, but far more likely.

Get well soon, Mr. McCartney. I know more than one person who has had their concert tickets cancelled (was a little shocked that they did not get their money back straight away!), but all of them said they hope for your speedy recovery and know that the sickness leading to the cancellation cannot be helped.

Well... I'm 38 and I have had an awful time shifting this bastard sore throat/swollen glands. It's taken near enough a fortnight. I can sympathise, and I don't even like him ;-)

The tour promoter didn't pay for band, crew and equipment to travel halfway around the world. That's expensive. Even if you're a billionaire.

I remember reading somewhere that McCartney doesn't tour so much for the money as for the pleasure of performing for his fans. You've got to take your hat off to Paul for that. Perhaps he should scale it down, but he's a legend and deserves to be respected. If he wants to try and perform when he's a hundred and one, all I can say is that I hope I'm there, even if it's iffy concerning whether he's gonna play or not.

Few years ago, Mick Jagger and the Rollling Stones drew 1.5 million fans at a free concert on the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. As great as McCartney is, I doubt he can top that.

Joshuyaki indeed its not the Beatles nor wings... But it's a very talented old man who loves what he is doing... Maybe you don't have one that's why you won't understand. Its not a 9-18:00 job. Show cancellations always happen even young artists cancel their shows sometimes.

It's always the questions of who is better, the Beatles or Rolling Stones. They are both legends. I saw and talked to Lawrence Jubler, a former lead guitarlist for a decade with Paul McCartney and the Wings at a small nightclub about five years ago, that was attended by about 75 people. It was a pleasure to watch. He played only acoustic guitar and no singing, but a great guitarlist. Probably all the current Paul McCartney's band member must be a great musicians.

He is only to old if you have the "Japanese" mind set. everywhere else in the world your only as old as you feel. This country dictates when to marry,when to have children, work like a slave,retire,then wither away. God bless you Paul for keeping the dream alive.There are lots of people young and old who will continue to follow you.

I read that kind of article many times. He loves to interfaces with fans. He probably loves Japan and Japan's fans, too. How many paid audience will affect promoters, not singers with specified contract, BTW, 71 + years old singers and TV entertainers who appear on US commercials are plenty, Some are over 90 years old. Paul is about 10 years younger than Yoko Ono who goes all over in the world to promote her some kind of cause.
