TOKYO —
Pop group SMAP is set to begin a five-dome tour of Japan to promote their latest album “Gift of SMAP,” which was released on Wednesday. The tour, which begins on Aug 23, will end at Sapporo Dome on Christmas Eve.
Tour organizers said the stage will be decorated with a large Christmas tree on which will be hung message cards written by fans at each show. The Christmas Eve concert will be SMAP’s first ever during the Christmas season.
The tour takes in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo.

When I first saw the headline I thought it was that SMAP is finally disbanding... it will definitely be a pain to use the tozai line around Christmas, and just when all the parks in that area are at their best...

I wanted to add to the fact that they get paid in yen that there is nothing wrong with what they do. I love it when people write how what SMAP does is sooo humiliating as if the people typing such comments would refuse to do concerts of the money were put in front of them. Fat chance. These guys are popular. They fill stadiums, not only in Japan, but all around Asia. What the heck is humiliating about that? They get paid in yen and they deserve it. Nobody is forced to go to a SMAP concert. Yet thousands do go. Don't like it? Tough luck. Their fans do.

SMAP along with countless other Boy and Girl groups in Japan are packaged by the large Agencies and it is all about Appeal versus actual talent. These agencies have found that better marketing sells more than actual raw talent. But it is this way in most countries... Japan just puts a bit more focus on marketing over talent due to the power of the talent agencies. It is actually quite sad if you actually have talent.

SMAP, for me at least, is more about the variety shows then the concerts and CDs. All Johnnys artists, really....I think their variety shows are fun to watch and make melaugh....SMAPXSMAP,5LDK and the Kanjani8 one...i

I like SMAP; they're fun! :)
I think they are sincere in trying to lift people's spirits through their concerts, music releases, dramatic work and charitable efforts.

Those who called them lazy bunch should know the fact that they work 10 times harder and get underpaid compare to the spoiled rotten hollywood counterparts. Not only they sing&dance in concert (be it they suck at it), they also act, do a regular weekly show, radio and tv hosting. Japanese popular stars are known not to have much holiday break in a year, sometimes they work 7 days for months. Besides doing the concert, they'll be promoting movies and do other stuff on tv, so i think it's fair to stretch out the concert period. You can insult their talents etc but calling them lazy is just low. Japanese people are still one of the hardest workers in the world
