TOKYO —
TV personality Yoko Kumada has announced on her blog that she secretly got married in April. The announcement was made as reports began to emerge that Kumada is now five months pregnant.
On her blog, Kumada told fans, “We are incredibly happy together and we are in a loving relationship. I plan to use my mom and dad’s relationship as a model for my own and I hope to raise a healthy, happy baby.”
The blog post was uploaded on the same day that Kumada announced her marriage on TV Asahi’s “London Hearts” show and via her talent management agency.

That is if you like ditsy, "the looks will only get you so far" types. She has a beautiful figure I will give you that, but what's between the ears counts more, particularly when talking about giving birth and raising a child.
I hope she is up to the task.

Are there any marriages in Japan that aren't dekichatta kon??
papasmurfinjapan at Jul. 19, 2012 - 07:41AM JST
Given the amount of dekichatta kons, You'd think these celebrity types would have figured out how to have safe sex by now... Or do they do this deliberately?
tmarie at Jul. 19, 2012 - 07:55AM JST
Can someone name me ONE "famous" Japanese person in the last two years who got married THEN got pregnant? The STDs running through some of these people must just be frightening.
soldave at Jul. 19, 2012 - 08:30AM JST
She hopes to raise a "healthy baby"? A wonderful insight there; she's hardly going to say she wants to have a baby afflicted with malaria.

Many dekichatta kekkon end in divorce, don't they?
smithinjapan at Jul. 19, 2012 - 09:43AM JST
Another shotgun wedding, I see. Well, here's hoping it works out for them all.
tmarie at Jul. 19, 2012 - 09:51AM JST
Crazy, yep. Which is why I still don't understand why they continue on with the whole "we must get married" crap.

@Yubaru: you're saying this is a case of "beauty fades but dumb is forever"?

She is not only one of the most gorgeous women on the planet, she can shoot baskets whilst riding a unicycle!
beowulf at Jul. 19, 2012 - 03:01PM JST
Contrary to popular belief "dekichatta Kekkon" do not always end up in divorce. It depends a lot on the age of the couple. I can not remember where I read it, but people around Kumada's age seem to have a much more successful "dekichatta kekkon" compared to people in their early twenties.

Didnt expect any less from this airhead. She has a nice rack and I wish her luck though.

For being a rather secular country, people sure ACT a lot like religious ones when it comes to the whole marriage/pregnant/relationship thing. Get with the times, Japan. Two grown people CAN live together without being married. It's not a sin (any longer). They CAN raise a baby together without the forced wedding thing. How does Japan manage to be so conservative?
As for Yoko: Yet another flaky idol. Pretty? I think not. I see hotter girls on the subway. Even on the Yokohama subway there are better looking girls.
James Hoadley at Jul. 19, 2012 - 10:03PM JST
@yubaru The only problem with your premise is that you think that intelligence correlates with how well two people can get along. For some people, a bubble-head might be the perfect match. Demeanor is completely unrelated to intelligence, and is infinitely more important to a successful relationship. And yes, this is the voice of experience.
