The British Embassy in Japan is seeking suggestions from the Japanese public on where Prince William should visit when he comes to Japan next February for the first time.

The embassy posted a message on its Facebook page asking: Which place in Japan outside of Tokyo would you most like to see Prince William Duke of Cambridge visit? It offers five choices -- Osaka, Kyoto, Ise, Tohoku and other.

The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

William's wife Kate, who is currently five months pregnant, is not expected to join her husband on the trip which will also take the prince to China.

Tohoku!!!! Especially Sendai, Hirosaki, or Akita...I studied in Akita so I'm biased, but these are great destinations that are the road less traveled in Japan.

The refugees from Fukushima and use the power of the press to let the world know what Abe is trying to sweep under the carpet here!

Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands - to take in Japan and China in one stop while lessening the burden on taxpayers.

Some places related to William Adams, an Englishman who made a very significant historical impact on Japan. Hirado in Kyushu, and Shizuoka prefecture are a couple of suggestions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Adams_%28sailor%29

If he packs his shotgun, he could drill some holes in the local wildlife. Not my thing so can anyone help me out here? Nagano? Hokkaido?

Akiba?

Kabuki-za or Kokuritsu Gekijou, etc for the traditional Japanese play, but maybe boring for non-Japanese. How about Tokyo Tower, Kanda book store street. Sushi restaurants. Tokai do Shinkansen to see Mt. Fuji from the window. Oze. Asakusa. Edo Tokyo Hakubutsukan. Kokugikan for sumo (if any)

I second Nishinari-ku in Osaka

Yase, at the base of Mt Hei in NE Kyoto. A Japanese Emperor took refuge there when those who would do him harm were trying to hunt him down. A kind of delayed quid pro quo which a future King would appreciate.

Kagoshima, for old time's sake. Pay respects to the fallen, like the Prime Minister says we should.

They can come to my house.

An onsen, but guaranteed some paparazzi will be on a mountain with a satellite-like zoom lens camera to get some nude shots.

Hase shrine in Kamakura, close to the Giant Buddha and Who's him a.

I sense doing something "William Adams" related will having some appeal, sharing the same name, nationality and all

The prince won't have time for all that. Aside from being permitted into the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace - he will likely have time for perhaps two - at the most three - other places, within a reasonable distance of each other

@cHRISTOPHER: My guess is Kyoto and Nara/

Why not Kamakura?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

British Embassy trying a PR game for their prince. I personally wish he would stay home and not waste tax money. Are the Japanese people supposed to be awed by this man? What's so special about this Englishman?

'Are the Japanese people supposed to be awed by this man? What's so special about this Englishman?'

Haven't you seen the photo? The measurement from the bottom of his jaw to the top of his head is exactly the same as a London double-decker bus. That's awesome.

Walk about with Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, through Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, everyone's invited. OK only dreaming.

Heck, that's boring for most Japanese, ha ha

Sorry JT Kobe ain't on the list.....

Well, still those theaters are very crowded. There are many kimono clad audience, so at least you can feel you are in Japan. And Hanzomon used to be the west gate of Edo Castle where Shogun's direct retainers lived. I feel the air of samurai residence used to be there.

He hasn't been to Osaka or Kyoto yet?

Kansai. Much more to see and friendlier people.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It offered choices, not opinions, and worst of all, it gave only five choices, not a million opinions. Pathetic, truly, British embassy. I'm disgusted at your plebian approach to the order of the empire.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He will probably enjoy just about any place in the country, but I would personally recommend Kyoto and Hokkaido if he has got enough time.

The Britsih Embassy in Tokyo are quiet crap and have rude and rather ignorant staff who seems to get worse as time goes by. This is my opinion throught two decades of having dealt with them. It's mostly people doing a job but not caring about the British citizens and nationals they claim to serve. They waste their time asking questions about Prince William instead of doing their proper job.

There us a historicc site nb /Fukushima Prefecture. Not TPP area. Wakamatsu City. Tsuruga-jou castle and Imoriyama. When Boshi war was about over, 20 young boys (Jr and Sr HS age) were last to give support to Shogunate. When they thought castle was burning, all of 20 performed seppuku on IiMori yama. There are 20 graves lining up on Iimori yama, Maybe some of you heard name Byakkotai. That was last of Seppuku in Japan. Though Meiji Govt was with winners, Govt forbade Seppuku. But Empasssy will not select. Too cold in February. There are onsen towns there.

I think the Tokyo Tower would not be as interesting for foreigners. On the other hand, a traditional Japanese play to absorb Japanese culture would be good.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@cHRISTOPHER: My guess is Kyoto and Nara/

Besides a chinwag with the secluded imperial family, possible. I'd be surprised if he didn't do something William Adams connected though. First Englishman in Japan and all that, first visit for Prince William, same nationality, same name etc

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@quercetumDEC. 15, 2014 - 12:57PM JST I think the Tokyo Tower would not be as interesting for foreigners. On the other hand, a traditional Japanese play to absorb Japanese culture would be good.

It offers five choices—Osaka, Kyoto, Ise, Tohoku and other.----- out of Tokyo

Prince is not just foreigners, We are writing about "and other" places. It did not ask "culture"

Since the peasants like royalty so much, have them visit and stay in Minami-Senju. There are plenty of share hotels for them to get that royal fuzzy feeling. Frankly I could care less about royalty as they bleed red like anyone else. This royalty is outdated and needs to be put in a museum once and for all around the world. It serves no purpose and never did.
