Japan loves its Pepsi. Whether it’s pink, black, or white, watermelon-flavoured or filled with the taste of sakura cherry blossoms, Japan is the market that gets all the weird and wonderful creations, thanks to the inventive team behind the brand locally at Suntory Japan. Now, it’s not just the look and flavor of the product that’s getting an overhaul, it’s the formulation itself that’s receiving new attention, with the carbonation level reaching new heights in the Pepsi Strong 5.0GV, which contains the strongest gas volume in Pepsi’s history.

The company previously released Pepsi Strong in 2015, with a higher-than-normal carbonation and caffeine content, but even that pales in comparison to the Pepsi Strong 5.0GV. The 5.0 gas volume in this new product is so high the company had to create a new reinforced bottle to contain it.

Combined with a strong caffeine content, the new Pepsi comes in two varieties: the sugar-laden Pepsi Strong 5.0GV, in 420-milliliter and 490-milliliter bottles, and the sugar-free Pepsi Strong 5.0GV Zero, which will be available only in a 490-milliliter bottle. Designed to perk you up and keep you going through the day, the products will be on sale at stores around the country from June 21.

For those with a Japanese mailing address who are keen to get a taste before the official on-sale date, the company is offering free bottles to 10,000 people who log on to the Pepsi promotional site with their Twitter account and 5,000 to those who register as friends on the official Suntory Line account by 5 p.m. on June 6.

garfield1275,

It's also pretty useful for stripping paint.

Diet Coke should do this so I can get that mentos-bottle rocket I always wanted!

It should have a warning label on the bottle, "Not to be taken internally"

They always say free is not bad. I don't drink soda because of the high acidity and relative decalcification of said teeth. But maybe with 50% ice the acidity may become somewhat exceptable and a joyful experience. Maybe in this case free can be good.

1) It is nothing but glorified sugar water 2) The bottle leaches who-knows-what toxins into the drink

More people are finally realizing the dangers of soda and actively trying to avoid it because it is just plain bad for your health. It is devoid of nutrition, vitamins, minerals, protein or fiber and contains only empty calories. In other words it's one of the worst drinks you can consume. All it welcomes is tooth decay, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.

There are many things in the world which are bad for one's health. One of these once a month or so is alright.
