Japan Inc has suffered from a loss of manufacturing work to rising Asian rivals, while it has fallen behind American competitors on the cutting edge of gadgets and software.
Yup...squeezed on both sides because they thought the world would just stay the same so Japan Inc. could thrive without making any meaningful change. LOL.

Unfortunately the strong yen is killing a lot of Japanese businesses off. Their only respite might be to build factories overseas. This would gut Japanese manufacturing jobs but there's really no other way out short of leaving the LCD TV business. Practically no one is making money in LCD TVs. However, Sharp has invested in their 10 gen plant and there's no out unless they sell a major share to Hon Hai (Foxconn), who is looking to buy to get even with tattle tale Samsung over the LCD price fixing scandal. Samsung sold everyone else out.

Maybe it's time for Apple to buy Sharp?

How ironic. The 2011 switchover to digital TV has literally killed Japan's consumer electronics manufacturing (and related retailing) industries.
