What a waste of money, hope the dude flew budget airline in econ. class.

NIWA-San, as the former president of the ultra dynamic ( at least in Japanese standard ) trading group Itochu -- that survived economic crisis & out shined a few giant peers that collapsed ( Nissho Iwai etc ). He may be a low ranking official among these inexperienced & short-sighted politicians, but his famous 'politically incorrect' remark remained an act of telling the truth ( neutral by the remark's nature -- against Ishihara's political opportunistic act but not against the Tokyo Govt -- that recent development unveiled the fact Noda stole the disputed island purchase as his game now ! ). All in all, Niwa-San was innocent under the then circumstance.
He should step down and let these clowns to stage alone their meaningless show !

Sometime in life, we take a penny loss to gain a million.
This trip was well worth to discuss every detail in person how to deal with China.. Beigin's spy activities has been very aggresive, and they even monitor posts on JT. So I say very little here. FYI

There is no Diaoyu island. It was Senkaku island to begin with... also there is no Huangyan, it is Bajo de masinloc in philippines..
these chinese are just greedy because their economy is sinking... they just want to solve their employment problem, so they are waging war.

TokyoLurker. You could not be more wrong. Japan stole those islands around 1895 with your imperial war-mongering activities. From your attitude, I think the world should take a very close look at Japanese textbooks with respect to Asia's history.

These islands were not stolen from China or anyone else. They were incorporated into Japan in the 19th century without raising any opposition from any other country after the Japanese government made sure that these islands were not owned by anyone as some members in this JT explained. If you think these islands belong to China since "ancient times", then please explain to me why China did not claim these islands before it was was found that the area was rich in natural resourses. Why did not China asked the Americans to hand these islands to them after WWII. It is because China didn't consider these islands as their territories. You Chinese are really greedy! After invading Tibet, Uiguhr, inner Mongol, you are not staisfied yet and are trying to steal the whole south China sea and Senkaku islands. What next, Okinawa?

No it's YOU who couldn't be more wrong. The Senkakus were incorporated into Japan as Terra Nullis in January
1895. The Sino-Japanes war which resulted in the Treaty of Shimoneski where Chinese territories such as Taiwan
were giveh to Japan did not include the Senkakus. Why? Because they were already Japanese and china didn't consider it theirs. China while whing about 70 year old Japanese history is re-writing Asian History right this moment.
Sorry but all of South and East China Seas are not part of China.

Yeah, right, let's begin this meaning internal talk of 'Diaoyu Island sovereignty' by beginning with 'Senkaku is always Japanese...'

Neither Japan nor China is claiming that these islands are sovereign.
They're claiming it is part of their territory.

In Sino -Japanese war, China under Manchu Empire was a loser. Even China was owned by Manchu empire(qing dynasty). Therefore Japan was a legal owner from 1895. Then Second World War was ended in 1945. Nippon was a loser of Allied force and surrendererd unconditionally. They did not made precondition for leaving some islands for them. They lost the territorities of Taiwan and Korea from 1895 treaty. That treaty was no longer concrete when Japan lost the war.
Why not both Japan and China claimed that Island after World War II? In my opinion, the rightful owner was a nation which control and manage that islands after war. Not Japan or China has legitimate right of claim as part of their territory.

The islands were assigned to a Manchurian nobleman (king of something stupid). After losing war, Qing government was too busy with internal affairs to make claims of anything, and too weak to do so. Not making a claim during that moment will not change sovereignty. If you do not agree, ask big brother Sam this question:"Shall Israel exist after 1000+ years been destroyed?"
Sorry but all of South and East China Seas are not part of China.
Honestly, those islands are shared by all fisherman from all surrounding countries. They should be shared resource.
Frankly, I agree (many Japanese friends implicitly agree when talking about Diaoyu/Senkaku islands) with Russian PM on this: No land changes hand without a war....
In another word: winner takes all.

According your logic, that Islands were belong to China back in1000 years. It is not true.In 1000 years history, China territory was many times smaller than now. Mogul conquered china and based their capital in Peking. Manchu conquered China and based in Peking again. Can Mongolia or Manchuria claim Bejing as their capital now? It is also true that Qing empire stretched to that islands in 19th century. China was their colony. Not because China expanded their territory under Chinese authority. Thanks to Mongul and Manchu!, China size has enlarged many times in a few hundred years.
After world war Ii republic of China was a government of China and member of allies force. They did not claim legally. Geographiclly, that islands are more Taiwan than Japan.. People republic was not founded yet. Therefore territory loss before people republic founding was beyond the control of China. It is against the international law for aggression. Using force will be counter productive and China economy will be badly damaged.
