Well does anyone need a smartwatch when it needs to tag into a phone? What everyone wants is a watch that holds the full OS and features and is the phone.

so no- will still keep my old fossil on the wrist , phone in the pocket and pen in the hand

Don't worry, Apple will show them how to do it.

And Samsung will produce an excellent imitation within weeks.

Apple has probably looked at the Samsung Galaxy Gear (and likely soon this Sony smartwatch) and figured out what are the various weaknesses of these devices. As such, Apple will try to make their smartwatch work as independently as possible, though of course it will pair with the iPhone 4S, 5, 5S and 5C using Bluetooth LE (Low Energy).

I'm convinced that the whole smartwatch thing was a ruse. I don't believe that apple ever had any intention of making one. They "leaked" the smartwatch concept and got everyone scrambling their R&D departments to release a product that no one really wants or needs in order to beat Apple to the marketplace.

Whenever Apple releases their next thing they'll be able to say: "see, WE understand you - unlike those other guys who think you want to receive texts on your watch".

Just a hunch.
