Somewhat like IS in western Iraq maybe. With IS it is more of a Sunni religious alliance, though.
In the case of the Taliban they are ethnic Pashtun, so they have a natural affinity with the people in the south. When in power they had a strong tendency to ethnic cleansing, although there is a strong religious element too.

Pakistan is indirectly supporting the Taliban and I'm guessing every major Sunni country. You keep saying ISIS is US funded through Saudi Arabia, but the Saudis seem mighty conflicted on the whole thing http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/23/us-syria-crisis-saudi-idUSKCN0HI1Y120140923. My guess is your Russian puppet won't last any longer than the US did in Iraq. Welcome to the Middle East. Perhaps you should have formed some actual alliances rather than just selling weapons to everyone.
