For a dj he is o.k. at best. Always seemed to me to be a spoiled Orange county Japanese guy in search of something to do.

Steve Aoki has succeeded in society and amassed wealth and given back to society. He is the founder of Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, which raises money for Global humanitarian relief organizations. Also he was named as Global Ambassador for Best Buddies program which is a non-profit devoted to young people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We thank him for remembering our friends with disabilities. He has warmed many hearts and many people appreciate his support and generosity.

Another example of unusual family background is Japanese rapper Zeebra, the grandson of the former owner of NYC's Empire State Building and business partner of Donald Trump. His wikipedia page says he was bullied and dropped out of school in Japan because of a fire in one of his grandfather's hotels.

Considering his popularity world-wide, I'd say that a LOT of people would disagree with you.

Popularity as a DJ doesn't make you a good DJ, it just makes you rich.

There's a difference between being popular and actually having the raw skills to mix on stage and most popular DJ don't mix live on stage, some have admitted it. Most shows are now pre-recorded sets. How else do you think these so called DJ have so much time to THROW CAKES and wave their arms around in the air and act like complete fools?

Real DJs work the crowd but have to be on their game with the media i.e. vinyl that's what DJ stands for Disc Jockey. These guys on stage are on auto pilot and have the time to dance around, throw cakes, do Jesus poses, etc.

If you made them DJ live on a table in front of you and watched them closely, they wouldn't have time to do anything but mix, change vinyl, mix, change vinyl, mix, etc. More than half these stage monkeys don't even use headphones and having been DJ in clubs and live events during the 80's and 90's, I know there is NO way no matter how good you are that you can do mixes without headphones. How are you supposed to hear the beat and then beat match to the what's playing on the floor as you cue up the track to drop into the mix? That's one of the key ways to tell a poseur DJ from a real one.

Put very simply, great records make a great DJ . The passion to find them, the knowledge to know how to program them and show case them in the best way possible, and the technical skills to put them together imaginatively for the greatest end result. Also a great DJ is someone who cares about the music, not the ego, not the entourage, not the drugs. Aiming to please is the worst thing that has happened to DJ as much as politicians. By doing that you only represent your desire to have power and disregard all integrity.
