You won't have inflation if average salaries keep getting lower.

Abenomics will fix this in no time!!:-/

How long will it be before Abe implies this is due to Brexit and we need to stick with Abenomics because it is working?

Separately, government figures also showed that household spending in September shrank 2.1% from a year ago

can't imagine how people/families manage with such a low spending.

But recently vegetables are so expensive that I have never seen before.

The disappointing data came as the world’s third largest economy struggles to kick-start growth and conquer a long battle against deflation.

That's because those at the helm couldn't find their butts with both hands. Getting rid of deflation is easy. Raise the minimum wage. People will have money in their pockets, spend it, and that will lead to growth. My first semester of college's economics 101.

The BOJ has repeated pledges to continue monetary easing as needed until inflation reaches and stabilises at the target, which was first unveiled over three years ago as a cornerstone of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s economic revival policy.

Translation: We will continue to stupidly do what has constantly failed for 20 years and expect to get different results sometime in the future. The BOJ along with the Abe regime are clinically insane by Einstein's standards.

Falling energy prices as well as the impact of the yen’s appreciation continued pressuring CPI figures,” said Michinori Naruse, an analyst at Japan Research Institute.

No, idiot. Its because w

ages remain stagnant and people don't have money to spend. The above are blessings, without which the public would be in even more dire straits.

Separately, government figures also showed that household spending in September shrank 2.1% from a year ago, slightly better than expectations for a drop of 2.7%.

Still sucks.

Unemployment, meanwhile, remained at a multi-decade low of 3%.

Absolute BS stats. The government counts people working in conbinis and waitressing at the local izakaya chain 10 hours a week as being employed. Even volunteer activity is counted as employment now (TRUE). The real figure is WAAY higher. Remember that only 60% of people have full time employment, so how do they explain these rosy numbers??

Many economists are increasingly writing off Abe’s eponymous spend-for-growth policy to fire up the economy, dubbed Abenomics, the centrepiece of which is the central bank’s massive bond-purchase program.

A bit late. I wrote it off before it got started. I knew that it would never work. And so did soo many people that knew ANYTHING about Japan.

You won't have inflation if average salaries keep getting lower.

Exactly!!

Abenomics will fix this in no time!!:-/

Suuuurrre. And Norika Fujiwara, Noriko Nakagoshi, Miho Kanno, and Rena Tanaka are going to come to my house and have a 4-way tickle fight on my futon to see which one of them gets the honour of going out on a date with me.

Brown- he already has. months ago.

next stop Abenomexit,,,

EVEN BETTER: next stop Abexit

Doesn't feel cheaper, I must say. booze, cigarettes, fruit 'n veg (to counteract the bad effects of booze and fags), imported food etc etc.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

EVEN BETTER: next stop Abexit

That'll be 2021. Possibly longer, given what LDP wants to do for their dear leader.

First hand experience. My wife is earning same from more than ten years.I am earning less every year.Daughter has started going to a prestigious private university from this year. Result is we are spending less on house hold items.Rarely go dining out.

Kuroda is made to look a fool (again). Still, if Abe can postpone the consumption tax increase Kuroda can postpone his 2% inflation target. Let someone else sort the mess out once they've gone.

Government figures suggest salaries are slowly increasing at about 0.5% a year. Maybe that's offset by increasing pension contributions. It's not enough to make an impact on inflation.

Core consumer prices, excluding volatile fresh food costs

Why do the figures not include this? I suspect more than a few Japanese are buying fresh food.

Out-of-touch fools behind money printers "directing" the economy with their nobel-prize-winning macroeconomic models with a touch of a button. Probably have zero clues of how housewives and CEOs of companies big and small, think, fear and feel about their daily businesses.

Had lunch for 550 yen today and that was 500 yen more expensive than the cheapest option....

Go to the suburbs like Kanagawa and look at the soda machines. Most are now offering even lower than ¥100 per item. Many are 90, 80 and even seen ¥70 machines. That shows you deflation is happening.

Food is volatile and seasonal and that is good. America has everything all year round and the crappy quality shows. Here we have wonderful seasons of fresh vegetables and fruits and yes, prices go up and down, I love it. tasty and fresh.

Not much trade competition. Population is shrinking and getting very old. What do you expect ?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Reckless: Then obviously you have refrained from buying and tasting fruit and veggies in Japan. No comparison with SF or LosAngeles. I do not bong, and am also not into rap.

@Aly Rustom 12:28 - I know! I meant specifically in response to these latest figures. Abe always has an excuse for negative news. These figures yet again show that Abenomics isn't achieving anything - so I expect him to come out with more excuses next time he speaks publicly.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

See, it's proof that Japan needs Abe to stay as PM for a third term in office!! Because....you know...arrows.

Great! My monthly grocery bill goes down from 50000円 to 47500. I can afford to go out and celebrate.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The almighty market is moving prices where they should be. God bless deflation and lower prices.

Get a grip, readers. Households don't need to spend as much because their cost of living isn't rising. Sorry, folks, that ain't the crisis you're trying to make it out to be. Unless you think spiraling energy and food prices are a good thing for middle-class folks. LOL.

Yep, the inflation target is farther away. But the whole premise behind that strategy is dumb, anyway.

You won't have inflation if average salaries keep getting lower.

Salaries will keep getting lower so long as the population keeps declining, which reduces consumption, sales, profits, and salaries. The population will keep on declining as long as feeding and raising children remains expensive. Feeding and raising children will remain expensive so long as imported food is heavily tariffed, when more than half the people's salaries are absorbed in direct and indirect taxes, and when price-fixing and other shenanigans keep prices unnaturally high.

Low pay, higher living costs and tax breaks for the big corporations all at the expense of the little guy. Slavery is a key part of Japanese employment. Part time all the time with no benefits and poor wages and slavery working conditions. Welcome to the 3rd world
