AKQA, the ideas and innovation company, is expanding its international network and bolstering its Asia-Pacific presence with a new office in Tokyo. The agency opens with Nike and Nissan as launch clients.

Tokyo is the 11th office for the company, which has more than 1,300 employees around the world and numerous international accolades, including Digital Agency of the Year on both sides of the Atlantic. Tokyo also marks the fourth new office AKQA has opened this year, beginning with Paris, France and two new U.S. offices: Portland, Oregon and Atlanta, Georgia.

This is AKQA’s second office in Asia, following the opening of the Shanghai office in 2006.

“I was lucky to first visit Japan during the 2002 Football World Cup and fell in love with the country. I have returned many times since. The opening of our 11th AKQA office in Japan's capital Tokyo is a wonderful goal realized for our team and clients," said Ajaz Ahmed, founder and CEO of AKQA.

At launch, AKQA's team in Tokyo has 10 people onboard. AKQA is currently hiring design, strategy, creative and project management roles. Within the first half of 2013, AKQA plans to recruit an additional 30 people for its Tokyo office.
