Um, why did they pay the fine if they were not guilty!? Sounds guilty to me.

igloobuyerJun. 28, 2016 - 08:44AM JST Um, why did they pay the fine if they were not guilty!? Sounds guilty to me.

this was a fine imposed by the gov't; therefore, nissan had to pay the fine and then seek relief through the courts. and if you know anything about this "scandal," you would know that it's blown out of proportion. Nissan used emission standards approved by the EU and allowed by the SK gov't. suddenly, the SK gov't moved the goalposts by saying that it won't accept EU standards anymore, which caught nissan off guard. the data wasn't manipulated at all. if anything, this was meant to help SK car manufacturers.

KIA is #1 in initial quality and Hyundai is #3 (Porsche #2)

I have learnt to take these type of studies with a pinch of salt as one cannot read much into the rankings which are like a celebrity contest.

My New Sentra's transmission malfunctioned after only 2 years with sudden forceful accelerations in the highway that I almost hit the car ahead .

Plus their vaunted 20 km/liter advertisement was a hoax.

In reality it's only 11 km / liter !

Kia and Hyundai are more truthful nowadays and LBJ said his Kia is superb!

Japanese cars are sadly in decline together with their morals.

paying the fine is like paying traffic tickets or taxes, governments have guns so its always pay first then prove that you didn't own it.

japanese morals have declined cause they have to compete with the koreans!

that being said, korean cars are quite good nowadays.

You haven't been car shopping recently have you. Korea cars are competing right at the same level as Japanese cars with similar and even better reliability AND popularity. It's only Japan where Korean cars (and other products) don't sell well but I put that down to soft racism.

nakanoguy1: "the data wasn't manipulated at all. if anything, this was meant to help SK car manufacturers."

Yeah, because Nissan has no history... none at all... of manipulating emissions data. Mitsubishi and Suzuki have never lied, either.

Japanese cars are sadly in decline together with their morals. LOL yet Toyota continually sells the most vehicles each year and has the highest profit margins on those vehicles sold, excluding luxury brands. You dont have customers continually buy your if the quality is in decline. Ive had numerous Toyotas over the years some of the with over 200,000km , have never had any major components fail, eg engines transmissions, suspension. Get a Korean maker to build a 4x4 that can handle the extremes of the Arab desert or Russian winters, theyll fail miserably. just another reason why Toyotas and Japanese car dominate in the middle east and Russia.
