That's great news for those US universities. Is Toyota giving an equal amount of money to Japanese universities for similar research? If not, why not?

The article stated only MIT and Stanford. Years ago, there was a TV series Knight Rider and the series got idea from these US Us' research to create KIT, we heard. That was quite many years ago. Do you know J U which doing similar research? Remind you this is not donation activity.

PTownsend-it's a business decision that in itself will tell you about the sorry state of software and AI research in Japan.

too bad, there's a lot of Chinese, Indian and South Korean students there including masteral, doctorate and post-doctorate degree courses. Not only to these two above-mentioned universities but almost all higher-learning institutions in the USA from the four corners of the continent even up to upstate NY, University of ALbany and University of Rochester etc. TOYOTA is making research for the Chinese and Korean car makers at the same time.

Japanese students in the USA is only about 1/10 or 1/20th of Mainland Chinese students. Yes, I am referring to Strudents of Technology and Advanced-Science courses, not English conversation courses.

Both Univ have J srudents from Japan. In USA, numbers of Ameixan born people are counted as Amreicans, not people from other countries. Toyota is only interested in these two Univ, not others to complete its project. /at last CES, self driving cars were displayed to show these cars move to avoid collision, erc. Botg U had Chem, Biol, etc specific majors.
