A 14-year-old boy who had been in a coma since being beaten by four other teenagers on Oct 10 died Sunday night in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, police said Monday.

According to police, the victim, Shota Mori, suffered a subdural hematoma after being kicked in the head, as well as broken ribs, Sankei Shimbun reported. He was taken to hospital after the attack but never regained consciousness.

Three boys, aged 15, 16 and 18, and a 17-year-old girl have been charged with assaulting Mori, police said. Three of the suspects formerly attended the same school as the victim who lived in Tsu.

The four have admitted to beating Mori between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in a park toilet on Oct 10. They said they slammed his head against the wall and kicked him as he lay on the floor of the toilet.

This is disgusting. Those 4 teens murdered that boy. Yet due to Japan's archaic laws they will get a few years in detention and released because they will be "reformed minors." Stuff like this makes me absolutely sick. Those kids are old enough to be tried as adults for the assault and murder of that boy. Rest in peace, Shota - I'm sorry you had to suffer in such a way.

Hateful, truly hateful.

Hateful indeed.

Please try them all as adults and lock them up for life!

They should have been charged with Murder

Just imagine this would have been your child!

Then you would be reading about one of us on JT. Foreigner beats 3 teens to death for beating his son to death. And I for one would have supported the dad.

Please try them all as adults and lock them up for life!

Or beat them to death too.

Such savagery, it would be interesting to know why they did this. The 17 and 18 year olds could probably be tried as adults at least

I would also like to know what their motivation was. Was it for kicks? Were they imitating their favorite anime or computer game, were everyone comes back to play another game? Maybe they don't need a motivation, they just did it. I'm glad we don't have guns here. It seems a lot worse than when I was a kid in the 80s.

This kind of leniency isn't confined to Japan. I once taught 3 boys in Australia who were part of the murder of a man and the beating of his family on a beach on Christmas day. They guy that actually killed him got 3 years in jail. The others who assisted were let off.

It's very, very hard being civil to people in your class who have done that to an innocent man enjoying a special day with his family at the beach, I can assure you.

They are all just babies - how can this happen. I feel sorry for his family, his mother and father... :(

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

@Shaniel Tinirau Sharma they are not babies, they are old enough to know right from wrong!

Eye for an eye

That is just sick. I'm not religious, but I hope there is a hell for these 4 individuals.

This ganging up & beating seems sadly somewhat common in Japan, I don't re-call hearing about this kind of thing when I was a teen growing, this is part of the dark side of group society.

I know it DOES happen elsewhere but it seems to happen more here, I just cant fathom the idea as a kid of getting my friends together to beat the crap out of someone .........

0 ( +4 / -4 )

try as adults, cause this is murder.

News like this makes you feel so angry and so powerless at the same time. So uncomfortable, that you immediately feel a need to find a distraction. The people in power who allow these 4 to hide behind "the law" are more than happy to use the age-old tactics of "wait-it-out". They all get away in the end ... so much for justice.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Nah, no way. It's just more shocking here - it seems more amplified in such a well ordered place. Violence in countries like England, Australia, the US are through the roof in young people. I can speak for Australia best, but mobbing, coward punches that kill people, assaults etc are very normal now. Japan is nowhere near it.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Charged with assault, what a joke! Sometime I think it is best to take justice into your own hands.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

tried as adults for first degree murder?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Y'all do realize, that not reacting emotionally, but in the way which is best for a society, which, SPOILER ALERT, is leniency towards criminals (especially rage crime like that), is part of what makes Japan a country with the lowest crime rates on earth?

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Why???? I'm shocked!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Absolutely no way does this kind of thing happen more in Japan. In the UK this happens on a daily basis across the country, it's just so common it doesn't always get reported. Also remember Japan has 128m people, twice the population of the UK and many times the population of other English speaking countries, though only a third the population of the US, but then again a third.

I expect there will be one psychopathic ring leader and a bunch of weak minded followers in this case, and once again a reminder that even a single blow to the head can be fatal, life is not like the movies.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Sorry, they're all minors. Light (if any) sentences, and their records will be sealed after they become adults.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

May karma catch up with them if even if the law doesnt.

As horrible as such cases are, some people here are stooping nearly as low in their blood thirsty wishes for vengeance. I find that almost as disgusting and uncivilized as what the criminals did.

You do realize that a victim has to be dead before murder charges can be brought?

Forgiving legal system will create an even greater future problem.

Well,i'm living in Japan and i saw how life is here!! I believe it's due to lack of communications between parents and children Since parents always busy with their work and they don't even have time to discuss daily problems with their kids, that's why some of them feel stressed and willing to do unresponsible things because they don't even know what will be the repercussions of what they did!!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I agree with other posters, charge them with murder (tho I know that wouldn't happen as they are supposedly "minors").

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Murder charge as adult. Japan still has death sentence.

Im grateful you dont "educate" my children.

Did you not consider that these four kids were perhaps doing the same? Which, if that were the case, would make them as noble as you.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

if they're minors and won't be charged or take responsibility, how many murders can youth do until jail occurs? 2? 5? More?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

how many murders can youth do until jail occurs?

Children aged 14 or over can be jailed for up to 20 years for murder (since 2014). Those aged over 18 can be sentenced to death.

Can't tell their names because we must protect the rights and dignity of a group of thugs who beat somebody to death

Nasty young adults. Blame on them for being worthless and their parents for not raising better.

Very sad

It is strange that young people are able to inflict such cruelty.

RIP

Was the victim dead when the charges were pressed? The article doesn't state that one way or the other, but it does state that the victim died almost two weeks after the beating, and two weeks seems like enough time for the police to have pressed charges. Considering this article came out the morning after the boy died, they may not have pressed murder charges yet at the time of writing.

Good point. The article doesn't in fact state when the charges were pressed. Anyway, as long as they press murder charges now..these punks should not see the light of day. EVER.

They say what goes around comes around and I sure do hope it's true for these so-called kids. ’Kids' should be playing pokemon go, zelda or final fantasy...not murdering a fellow kid. I wonder what's the motive behind this murder.

The law in this country needs to be changed regarding the treatment of 'kids' and the commission of crime. They had the heart and will power to beat another kid, resulting in his death, yet they may well not get any substantial punishment for it. Too often these kinds of things happen and these murderers walk freely back into society as is nithing happened. I say, change the law to make a child's 'criminal act' punishable by law once they attain the age of 12. You simply cannot have 15, 17, and 18 year olds killing people and not paying for it.

Sometimes lawmakers and government officials don't see the seriousness of an action or the effects of something until it directly affects them. Open your eyes government, make a change before it's too late.

They will be banged up until they're 20, and then probably transferred to a facility for the criminally insane from which it will be difficult for them to be released w/o judicial and medical authorties' consent. The 18 yo may be tried as an adult under existing law, afaik. There was a move at one point to reduce the age for prosecution as an adult to 14 for capital crimes, which did not gain traction in the diet. Rightly so, imho, even considering the emotions this case stirs.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ganging-up against a victim who is younger than each of them. What a shame and hateful! Hopefully karma will catch up with them real soon.
