Police in Okegawa, Saitama Prefecture, on Thursday arrested an 18-year-old girl on suspicion of attempting to kill her mother.

According to police, a man called 119 at around 12:15 a.m., saying that his daughter had stabbed his wife, Fuji TV reported.

Police rushed to the scene and found the 57-year-old woman in the living room with a stab wound to her left abdomen. The daughter was also at home and has admitted to stabbing her mother with a fruit knife, police said.

The mother was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition, police said.

The suspect's father told police his daughter and wife had been quarreling that night. He said he had gone to bed but was awoken by his wife's scream.

It would be nice to once wake up, get on JT, and not see someone getting arrested for the murder or attempted murder of one of their family members..just once.

Why does it so often come to this? If the argument you're in is getting so heated that you are considering violence, then recognize the signs, walk away and decompress.

@Strangerland - Agree completely...this is nothing compared to what you see in major cities in the U.S.

If it bleeds - it leads.....

Fortunately the mother survived. Very sad when a daughter tries to actually kill her own mother.

Compare this to the U.S. where a guy actually pulled two teenagers' SUV out of a ditch and how did they reward him....well they shot him dead.

There will always, always going to be a disagreement between family members worst scenario would be like slapping and cursing but resulting to attempted murder is way beyond imaginary. Where is that bond and respect?

I don't understand how an argument can escalate to point where a child stabs a parent. What could possibly be said to enrage a person to that point. People really have short fuses these days..

This is a cultural issue. Very often people do not talk about their differences over various matters for a long time, thus Gaman. People continue to control themselves to the point of explosion, and an explosive response is going to happen sooner or later. Essentially there is little skill to negotiate and compromise. Everyone has a very strong opinion on his/her position. My Japanese ex suddenly decided to attack me with a hammer, while she had refused to talk about her issues with me earlier that day. I have spend many years understanding what went wrong. This is cultural.

Violence is everywhere. At least, they talk about it in the news. It should allow a collective wake up.

But it for the autority the realise that all of this violence problems have the same issue which is social care that is not enough grounded in japan life. Privacy and silence is value above the well care of the fragility of some people.

It is important to have a good protective care system for people who wish to be independant from their family because not all family are loving one. Forcing people to take care of each other when there is no sympathy end up, always in violence.

Psychology could be an answer here to help to breach the wall of silence. Art in school too. A better school system too.

And I'm going to go ahead and guess it was over something like the cell phone bill, not studying enough, or "her bad character" or something trivial.

Please hurry up and make 18 the age of adulthood so morons like this "girl" can be tried for what they should be tried for. A stint in juvie is not enough for what she's done.

I know somebody who woke up to see his wife standing in front of him holding a kitchen knife. It scared the begeezers out of him.

Am I the only one who finds it rather funny that the two were already have a fight and the dad's like: "I'm sleepy, you guys go and argue with each other, I'm going to bed!" And then says he woke up when he heard his wife screaming.

The abdomen with a fruit knife? C'mon, she wasn't trying to kill her.

This is the dark side of the Japanese ""talk"" to each other without actually TALKING!!

Things build up & boom! This is VERY common to many aspects of life here. And gaman is a HUGE reason why.

Gaman & shoganai are two massive problems here that are sadly here to stay in most cases, expect more of the same people!

Gaman & shoganai are two massive problems here

Nailed the problem right there.

The current young generation is rather anti-social and any questions from parents or teachers is often seen as a threat. Doesn't look good for Japan's future.

Maybe the rebellious 18 year old is old enough to live on her own and make her own money.
