2 brothers arrested for throwing eggs from bridge at cars on Tomei Expressway

Police in Oimachi, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested two brothers, aged 18 and 21, on suspicion of throwing 500 raw eggs from a narrow bridge onto cars driving nine meters below on the Tomei Expressway.

Police said Tuesday they plan to send two more friends of the brothers, aged 17 and 18, to prosecutors, Fuji TV reported. The four will be charged with damaging property and endangering people's lives, police said.

The four are suspected of throwing eggs at cars coming in their direction from the bridge early in the morning of Sept 20 and again at around 10 p.m. on the same day.

According to police, a total of 54 cars suffered damage, including broken windshields, in the two incidents.

Police - who had been notified in the morning -- were on the lookout that night and found one of the suspects about 1.5 kilometers away from the bridge with eggs in the pockets of his pants. Police said the group stole some of the eggs from a supermarket.

The 18-year-old was quoted by police as saying they got a kick out of seeing the surprised look on drivers' faces when they got out of their cars after being hit with the eggs.

500 eggs!!! You'd think the novelty of throwing eggs at cars would have worn off after the hundred or so. These boys must lead some very boring lives.

For kicks! Again this word! Pleasure from terrifying people and breaking things. Please send these guys to a war zone, they dont belong on the streets anymore.

These guys are just lucky no one was actually hurt. While they obviously (or should I say "probably", since I don't know for sure) had no intention to hurt anyone, an accident could have very easily happened nonetheless.

The other thing that surprised me here was the age of these guys. We are talking high school and university age. When I saw the story, I was sort of expecting them to be middle school age or something like that.

Anyway, fortunately this incident did not result in more serious consequences for any of the drivers.

500 eggs in two egg throwing sessions? Somehow I think that number is somewhat eggsagerated. It is a very stupid and dangerous thing to do and they were lucky they didn't cause a major accident resulting in death. However, at least they weren't throwing rocks.

Throwing anything at cars traveling at highway speeds is extremely dangerous. They could have caused someone to crash their vehicle, have a seizure or even a heart attack.

18 and 21 ? Oh yeah kids

damn this crap is getting out of hand nowadays

1 ( +2 / -1 )

That's quite a bit of money too adding up the costs in Japan...did they steal them?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I thought this was done by boys aged around 8....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

dumb, but at least it wasn't rocks.

cevin7 I thought this was done by boys aged around 8....

I've an 8 year old son who would'nt dream of such a stupid act.

Other reports state that the police were scrambled to the scene pretty quickly. The elder boy remarked that the instant he saw a couple of hard-boiled troopers, he knew they were beaten.

The eggs were, in fact, not stolen from a supermarket but poached from a local chicken farmer who was said to be unimpressed by the boys' rotten behaviour.

Police have stated that they will take steps to ensure that this fowl deed is not repeated.

A>N Other, ROTFL.

At this age young men usually join naval or armed forces in some countries....and those imbeciles were throwing eggs from the bridge ...poor parents !

So are you suggesting to put these buffoons on the front lines for Japan? lol

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well, they'll likely now be yoked into something serious.

7 and 8 years old I could understand. But 17 and 18? They are on their way downhill really fast.

Quite an art to lob an egg and hit a windscreen approaching at 100 kph, ten meters below. Cheap new arcade game? Maybe budding Einsteins!

AN Other, that's a little eggstreme with the egg gags. Funny though! Are you an eggspert by any chance?

On the Tomei? Lucky they avoided manslaughter.

Surely as they say, age is nothing but a number.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Sick boys ...

Note to self: If caught on highway having raw eggs dropped on my car, remember location of bridge. Exit next ramp. Drive back to bridge. Stop at a convenient store to buy .....raw eggs.....as many cartons as they have. Go to bridge. Get out of car and throw eggs at the jerks on the bridge until the police arrive. 500 eggs would take a long time to drop so how were they able to have so much time for this act TWICE in ONE day from the SAME bridge!?

Stupid boys, Halloween is over!

500 eggs? its ridiculious, how much money they invested in it? When I was I child there were some times that I threw eggs too, but I stop doing these kind of things when I was 14.

Ton the news they said 300 eggs, still an insane amount.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

anyway I dont think it is something to get the police involved with.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

There is a reason that this is treated very seriously by police. It's extremely dangerous! One egg could have resulted in someone being killed or severely injured.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Besides property damage it could have easily killed on or more persons.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"One egg could have resulted in someone being killed or severely injured" I dont think so

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

One car swerve s and causes a mass pileup resulting in death and injuries.

Highly likely, I once got hit by a kabuto mushi while riding my bike, my leathers cushioned it but it felt like I took a bullet to my chest, stopped the Bike to see the damage.

A cracked windshield from a pebble or raw egg will do it too.

Darn whippersnappers...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Why couldn't they have done that outside Nagatacho instead? At least they were not more lethal objects

0 ( +0 / -0 )

50 carton of eggs. You think the supermarket would have noticed something was up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In England I had eggs thrown at me when I was on a canal boat. No damage, but it beats getting rocks thrown at you. Those things can hurt if you don't keep a stiff upper lip and all that.

This kind of behaviour is highly dangerous. In Australia, there are now high barriers built up over major freeway intersections to deter this kind of stupidity. People have been seriously inujured - with rocks, not eggs. One moron threw a 20 kg rock into the windscreen of a truck! .......http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/man-injured-after-rock-thrown-at-truck-from-freeway-overpass/story-e6frf7jo-1225867996857

Two brothers throwing eggs of from a bridge, I was expecting 10 year olds, but 18 and 21. Well that is just sad.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Im always cautious of kids doing that from the bridges over a lot of the expressway / highways in Japan. Its very dangers, lots of kids in America do the same and end up killing drivers and passengers.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

This is nothing compared to kids in US/AUS throwing rocks at cars.
