A woman in Izumisano, Osaka, was arrested Sunday after confessing to fatally stabbing her grandmother in a dispute over living expenses. Hiromi Nishimura, 20, who lived with her 78-year-old grandmother, Haruko Nakano, called police at around 10:50 a.m. and said, "I've stabbed my grandmother in the neck."

Police arrived to find Nakano face down on the kitchen floor bleeding from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, Nishimura, who is unemployed, had been sharing Nakano's pension, which had occasionally caused arguments between the two. Nishimura told police that around 10 a.m., they had an heated argument over money. "She said if I wasn't going to bring in any money, I should get out," Nishimura was quoted as saying.

Nishimura told police she had been thinking about killing her grandmother since around March.

Lovely little Hiromi with little princess syndrome

Nishimura should swing for this. Committing cold-blooded murder at the age of 20 years, means you have serious issues and no redeeming value. Capital punishment candidate.

yeah, yeah, she was living the fairy tale princess fantasy. A 20 year old living with her old grandmother and the two of them getting by on her pension. There is no excuse for killing someone but financial strain does make it more understandable.

Cold, I hope she is locked up for a long long time.

Well, she won't need any of that pension money now that she'll be in prison.

Wow, talk about spoiled brats!

That's what happens when you get kids to support the opposing (red) team and not your own (white) team during Sports Festival. If kids don't know how to handle defeat then how do you expect young adults to.

Another preventable crime I say!

I'm getting a vasectomy.

Unfortunately, more of this is to be expected with rising food prices.

wow, guys, yeah she might be crazy, but how do you know this grandmother was anything other than a cranky spiteful insulting confidence wrecker? Or that she didn't torture this girl when a child or do things to cause her parents to abandon her?

Anytime someone feels strongly enough to kill someone, esp a family member, there is usually more going on, a LOT more.

And she is just old enough to go to jail! Woohoo that she didn't do it when she was 19!

Verdict: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT. 20 year old lazy to find a job...

only 20 years old. hm, she should have just worked part time somewhere. what is up with the stabbing o people.

she is just 20 years old. and was suffering mentally and financially. it is an accident, in my view crime has done for self defence, her grandmother asked her to go and earn my by any means. thats means she may be go on wrong path. because of mental torcher she did so. court should punish her for few months. and after completing it. she must try to get some job.

And you know this how?

She was asked to get off her ass and find a job to pay for her own existance. Why is this "torcher" (SIC)?

To kill your own Grandmother, she should do more than a few months.

20 years old fighting grandma pension for living expenses. Just pathetic.

Not here there isn't. There are cases all the time of kids stabbing relatives because they, "complained about cell phone bills", or "wouldn't pass the remote". In any case, did the woman deserve to be murdered by her unemployed 20 year old granddaughter?

Anyway, at least Hiromi won't have to worry about housing for the next, hopefully, 15 years. By the time she hits the ripe old age of 30 in prison perhaps she'll appreciate what she had.

That does not matter! The granny has a right to be all that. And the brat has still no right to her pension, and certainly no right to kill her. Sheesh.

This story is tragic. But a lot of information has been left out or not investigated/found relevant. Western reporters do a much better job at asking questions and finding answers than here in Japan. Where are this girls parents? Why is she living with her grandmother? Does this younger girl have siblings? Is she going to college? Have there been problems in the past? I am getting tired of reading these stories with so much information missing. Maybe the moderator can fill me in on the missing details or explain why there is so little information in stories like these?

I am in New York. I do not speak Japanese well or read it at all. I was raised in the United States. I still have some small family in Japan... this womans name is the same as my birth mother, Haruko Nakano, from Amagasaki - I have lost touch with her for many years after the Kobe earthquake. Does anyone know how to reach some one in the Osaka police department to find out more about this case, please?

^Wow. Maybe try contacting the author of the article? Is your mother also in that same age category?

I agree with you there are a lot of blanks left in this story, but I dont think anybody is so invested in this story that we need a moderator to come in here and tell us all those personal details. If they knew it, I dont see why they would have not incorporated it into the article.
