Sounds fair. I wonder what would have happened to the if they were tried in Japan.

Fantastic news. Give their cell mates contact details.

Better they be tried and jailed in India than here. Here they would have probably gotten a much more lenient sentence, 5 to 10, if that, and jailed in much better conditions as well.

They'll be out in 2 for good behavior. I use to work in India and I found the place just a session of back handers all the time. Unfortunate.

Sound's fair. I wonder what would have happened if they were tried in America.

Finally something good coming to the forefront - but I think those that aided the animals should get more than a slap on the wrist.

We greatly appreciate the excellent work of India's judge and are extremely happy.

Never ever trust strangers. In our sick world, all they want is your money and for the ladies, your body. Particularly in a country like India.

They need to be as tough on the people who commit such heinous acts towards their own country men and women as well, since as heinous as this was the rape of the Indian woman with the iron bar was FAR worse. But I'm glad they at least got 20 years -- and hope in the other case they all get life. India is FAR overdo for some change in this and other respects.

Yeah, who would ever want to visit and experience different cultures. It's baffling.

I wouldn't. I'd like to live my life cradle to grave in a safe homogeneous society free of hate. It's hard to have racism in a society without minorities, but this obvious solution is itself labeled racist.

hope they are not getting out before 20 years.

Take note Japan...that"s what an appropriate prison sentence looks like

I think it is those few illiterate people hungry for sex who don't even understand how this makes their country look in front of others.

I would really advice people visiting India to be careful about their guides and the places where you plan to travel.

Australia needs to take note as well. Absolutely p** weak sentencing laws there.

These scumbags will be rotten forever.

Not the girls fault in any way, shape or form. However, I have seen quite a few young Japanese women traveling abroad alone and I find it good that they feel that they can travel alone, but I think some of them are naive to the dangers present outside of Japan. I hope that all young ladies traveling abroad will take some appropriate safety measures, like not getting in a car with three men and hopefully letting other people know their whereabouts and travel plans.

Trial fast tracked and completed in 5 months itself shows that Indian judiciary takes a very serious view against commissioning of crimes like rape against women and award exemplary punishment against the guilty. It is a good judgment and welcomed by all. Foreign tourists should be careful not to seek from any assistance from any Tom Dick and Harry tourist guides. They should seek help only from the official Tourist Travel Centers for planning their tours.

Terrible situation. Japan should do a better job of educating their naïve tourists of the evils that await them in foreign third world countries

Ladies, take some martial arts combat skills to protect yourself. yokogeri fast hard Kick in groin, shin and throw sands at eyes and run for your life!

Third world countries, especially this one, have a terrible human-rights and women's rights record. Who would want to go there? Go to a civilized country instead.

****What happened to the death penalty.

Women are second class citizens for men to mistreat in many cultures throughout the world. I like what Aya L. Has to say. One kick or punch placed right take him out of commission for several minutes. Dirt or sand in the eyes, he is done.

I don't hate much but rapists are up there. Violent rape is tops.

Never ever trust strangers. In our sick world

Man, saying "no" to strangers was instilled in me in Elementary school and still applies through adulthood.

Hearing about the rapes of these 2 young women in India, the newlywed couple taking the wrong taxi in Ecuador and the young woman taking a cab with 2 men at an airport in Romania only made things worse.

I hope the sentence of these low lives goes the full 20.

"Fast tracked" and "completed" means NOTHING if things like this continue to happen not only to local but foreign women in India. It has only been in the last several years since Indian women found the courage and voice to speak up against these atrocities being committed by men in their country. So, that makes you wonder how many more victims there have been in the past who have been afraid to speak up due to fear, shame and cultural constraints.

Indians, especially men, need to speak up more and condemn these crimes their kind are committing. Simply advising to avoid suspicious tour guides or taxi drivers is a lame attempt at saving face and indicates only a worry of how they look to the outside world instead of any genuine concern for the victims of the crimes. They need to be more vocal on this issue. The world is watching.

respect for women is lacking in many parts of the world. Women are gods in a sense and without the respect for them this world will never progress.
