Police in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, on Sunday arrested a 50-year-old man over the hit-and-run death of a 32-year-old man on Saturday morning.
According to police, the suspect, Koji Ezaki, who is a company employee, hit and killed Takanori Nakaie on a road at around 5 a.m. Saturday, Fuji TV reported. A passerby called 110 to report that a man was lying in the middle of the road.
Police said Nakaie suffered a depressed skull fracture. He was confirmed dead at the scene. His body had an indentation on it consistent with a car tire.
Police said they were able to identify Ezaki's car after examining street surveillance camera footage.
Ezaki has denied the charge. He was quoted by police as saying he was driving along the road at that time but insisted he did not hit anyone.

We usually complain about lack of information, but this is TMI. Was it really necessary?

RIP .. It sounds like he may have been killed then left to lay in the street and was hit by the car. Like being killed twice

@Utrack:
Yes, that's also what concerns me right now. At any rate, the man has died well before his time. RIP.

It's likely the victim was laying in the middle of the road to begin with and the driver had no way to see him. As sensei258 points out, we have a little too much information and some areas, but I would add we don't have enough in other areas. What was the victim wearing? Did it appear that he had been walking or sleeping in the road, or was he thrown from a pedestrian crossing to his final location?

If he did hit him there must be some damage to the car and possibly even DNA as well. Without this kind of evidence, this is just another case of the Japanese police standard of 'guilty until proven innocent'. It seems a little strange they have arrested him just for his car being on the road around the same time. My guess is, there is more evidence than has been made public.
