A 61-year-old man was stabbed to death by an intruder in his home in Mutsuzawa, Chiba Prefecture, on Monday morning.

According to police, company director Hidekazu Tanaka was stabbed in the stomach and chest by an unknown man who broke into his residence at around 3:30 a.m., Fuji TV reported. Police said Tanaka's wife, 51, told them she woke up and saw her husband and an unknown man struggling in the bedroom. She said the intruder stabbed her husband and fled.

Tanaka died from his wounds in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Police said the suspect was wearing a large dark coat, and was solid in build.

Who want's to be the first to say it?

I will. What a shame for Mr. Tanaka and his family.

It's time for everybody to Alsok their houses. Times are changing very fast, and it will get worse.

This was clearly the work of a professional - yakuza hit.

@Igloo, I think you are right! This looks, smells, etc..of a professional YAKUZKA hit job! RIP 61 year old man.

How about the right to meaningful self-defense?

Igloo, Elbuda, are you SERIOUS?! This is perhaps the least likely yakuza hit job ever? Stabbing? (not a gun) By an individual (not a group) In his OWN home? (not in the company car park) With his wife in the room?? I don't think so...

I say a burglar got disturbed and got scared. The wife sounds fishy though.. she saw them struggling, didn't try to help, and didnt think to get a good look at the attacker?

@kimuzukashiiiii,

What better way for Yakuza to do it than with a knife. There are still a few Yakuza that prefer the knife (blade) over a gun for if it were a professional hit, ie. Ninja style, they would use a blade first not a gun to make an important statement that the Ninja are still alive and well in the shadows of Japan.

I feel very sorry for the poor, defenseless man and his now widow who helplessly watched her husband being fatally attacked. A senseless death. The police are ALWAYS too late, and ALSOK is maybe marginally better. Smith and Wesson are better against such intruders intent to do great harm.

Got to agree with most here, signature Yak hit. Guns are normally used in a Yakuza on Yakuza hit. Tanaka as a director of a company may have fell into the not playing the game right on contractor deals.

@ Kimuzukashiiiiiii!! We don't know the specific but if I was to add my 2 cents I would say the wife sounds fishy!! Time to She saw the struggle and didn't think to get a good struggle!! Ummmm CHaching waiting for the pay out!

Except that by keeping a gun, you actually increase your odds of being shot. So while you may be able to defend yourself against an intruder, you are more likely to end up shot at some other time.

Strangerland: I think the deadman would take his chances if he was allowed to live that day again.

What a tragedy it would be to witness your spouse killed before you. I can't even imagine. Very sad story indeed.

On another note, the printed story here is literally six sentences, leaving many blanks left to be filled in. I always wonder what it is about the JT comments section that brings out all the armchair detectives with the wildest of theories, though. Sometimes a home invasion gone wrong is just a home invasion gone wrong.

Strangerland: I think the deadman would take his chances if he was allowed to live that day again.

The flaw in that logic is that had he been keeping a gun there is no guarantee he would have lived long enough for this incident to have happened, due to the higher risk of being shot by keeping a gun. Or maybe if he had lived long enough to see this incident, he may have seen one of his family members killed by that gun at sometime before this incident.

You've been watching too many movies. The yakuza don't always use hit men with silencers.

Except the factual data contradicts your oft-repeated false assertion. But nevermind decades worth of data, right?

Err... how so? I don´t know the background of this, and certainly not from the article. I wonder how this was "clearly" this or that???

Actually the CDC study found that those that use guns when defending themselves had less injuries and the injuries were less severe than those who defended themselves and did not use a firearm.

The CDC study was called “Priorities For Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence,”
