Police in Osaka have arrested a 66-year-old woman on suspicion of fatally abusing her 2-month-old granddaughter in April.

According to police, the suspect, Yasuko Yamauchi, visited her granddaughter's apartment in Higashi-yodogawa Ward on April 6 to look after the child, Ayano Saeki, and her older sister, while the children's parents went out, Fuji TV reported. When the parents returned a few hours later, Ayano's body was limp. Her parents took her to a hospital where she was diagnosed as having suffered a head injury. She fell into a coma and died on July 23 due to subarachnoid bleeding, police said.

The hospital notified a child welfare facility that Ayano had suffered a head injury and police began an investigation into possible abuse. Ayano's older sister was not injured.

Police said Yamauchi has denied abusing the child.

Fatal abuse, sound better than murder doesn't it, but that's what it is.

A 2 month old baby can barely move, so good luck trying to blame it in court later. If you are guilty, may her ghost haunt you the rest of your life, and greet you as you pass on.

Now let's hear from from the internet sympathy crowd how she shouldn't be blamed for murdering a baby

"A 2 month old baby can barely move"

Just sleeps and wakes up. And, err, cries when it needs feeding / changing. Doh!!

The little girl died in July and they arrested the grandmother six months later?

smithinjapan: I think the article says it was a 66 year old woman who murdered the child. Maybe you meant to say "her", but yeah, agree.
