Police in Izumisano, Osaka, said Wednesday they are looking for a man who slashed a 71-year-old woman in a tobacco shop.

According to police, the woman, Tokue Nagasawa, owns the store with her husband. She was behind the counter when a man came in at around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Fuji TV reported. He demanded money and threatened her with a knife. No one else was in the store at the time.

When Nagasawa resisted, the man slashed her right elbow and the upper right side of her chest, police said. Her husband heard the struggle but the man fled on a bicycle without taking anything.

Nagasawa was taken to hospital where she is in a stable condition.

Police said she told them that the assailant had been a customer at the store many times.

Those tobacco shops are old school so doubt there was any surveillance. Hope they catch the loser pronto.

I know that Japanese culture has no allowance for this behavior and I hope she heals quickly. Bullets have ballistics which can be traced to a gun so that can lead to a shooter. Knife attacks are hard to pin to a person unless there are witnesses. Knifes are silent and leave no identifiable characteristics which is a little worrisome to me. Anyone who cuts another person needs to be removed from society.

When I read this, the takeaway for me is that you are trying to say it would be better if the criminals had guns, so we could find them easier after they shoot someone. Is that actually what you were trying to say?

Just a matter of time before they get him.

All readers back on topic please. Guns are not relevant to this discussion.

"it would mean guns are legal, which would mean the gangsters and anyone else who wanted to commit a major crime would have them as well."

and with the temper tantrums, and explosive tempers, and violent tantrums over the smallest things, the place would become a total holocaust....

I was just thinking in the western mindset. I would think there are so many unsolved knifings as they all leave similar characteristics. Other than word of mouth how does the perpetrator get pinned for the crime? In court it must be a she said he said unless the police use unusual means to get a confession. At 70 years of age the body heals slowly and I hope she suffers no ill infections. The Japanese Police intrigue me to say the least.

Slashing an elderly man, what a scum.

Wow!! This is sad. Attacking a 71 year old woman for money. As a regular he thought he was entitled to some form of returns and thought that was the best way to get it? I'm surely gonna be more on my guard, as I keep seeing this man at my door leering at me. Glad it wasn't fatal.

David Blue: I agree with ur comments to a tee. I have read and watch so many crime shows and books (will be taking a course of INTRO TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE in college) so I know a lot about motives, weapons, especially forensics (my strong point) ect.

The man would probably have had better luck at a bank. Why rob a drug store? Rob something that has more money in it. What a dumb criminal. And again with bikes. Seriously! Use something else. Something that can go faster then a bike. U would be to tired if u were caught to resist. In that case, please use bikes. Easier to take u down with.
