Hokkaido police officer arrested for molesting 17-year-old girl

A police officer has been arrested for sexually molesting a 17-year-old girl on a snow-covered mountain road in Otaru, Hokkaido.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Jan 10. The Hokkaido Shimbun reported that the suspect, identified as Yudai Takane, a 31-year-old officer from Sapporo, approached the girl as she was walking by herself along a mountain road. He then allegedly pushed her down, lifted up her top and groped her.

Police said nearby street surveillance camera footage showed a man that looks like Takane in the vicinity at the time. Takane was quoted by police as saying he walked by the girl but did not touch her.

According to Sapporo police, Takane was hired in April 2011, and was transferred to the Higashi Ward regional division in January 2012. The crime took place on the morning after he finished night duty, outside of his working hours.

Well thats a relief, he was "outside his working hours", What difference does does that statement mean, molest is a crime, doesn't really matter whether it was in or out of so called working hours.

Maybe the last line wants to establish that he was not wearing police uniform at the time?

"Takane was quoted by police as saying he walked by the girl but did not touch her."

Is it possible he's telling the truth and the girl is lying? The other day a female NHK reporter lied about having her bag swiped...

One good thing about the J-cops, is they seem to have no problem arresting fellow officers.

Above is a typical victim accuser? For your info,

Police said nearby street surveillance camera footage showed a man that looks like Takane in the vicinity at the tim

The camera only proves he was in the area. Having said that, it seems more likely that he DID grope her. For the girl to pick a random stranger to accuse of something that didn't happen seems less likely.

If it was America I would vehemently say innocent until proven guilty...but this is Japan. Maybe he can become the Crying Copper and slam his fists down a few times on the Koban Desk.

I think Japanese deserve the same. Innocent until proven guilty. Though if proven guilty, this copper ought to receive a more serious punishment than usual, being a representative of the law and all that.

If these allegations are true it is very very sad and disgusting for the Japanese police in Hokkaido!!!

JT should only report when police officers do the job they are paid to do; that seems to be rarer than them carrying out lewd acts such as this. NOT being lewd or perverted is more of a news story these days...!

Innocent until proven guilty but that does not work when arresting officers forget to tell ::You can remain sicelnce ,,,,, " etc I don't think Japan has provision of "I remain silence ...." etc, either.. We don't hear details of video but cops usually inspect details. The contents that are sexual activity scenes are not viewed by public but adult cops and DA office members can see.

It's his word against hers. She says he did and he says he didn't. Beyond that, there's no proof anything actually happened. Without knowing the background of the cop or the girl, I can't even begin to guess who is more likely telling the truth. We've had high school girls here falsely accuse teachers of molestation simply because they didn't like the teacher's assignments. So reasons for lying could be completely arbitrary with no logic involved.

You can not stereotype different cases in different area as same.

It does not mention but why he was transfered, so shortly could have relation to his behavior.
