Police in Koto Ward, Tokyo, are investigating the deaths of a man and his wife in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to police, a man called 110 at around 9 a.m. on Sunday, claiming to have killed his wife at their home and gave the address. Sankei Shimbun reported that police rushed to the house in Botan and found the body of a 68-year-old woman lying on her bed. There was no one else in the house.
About 15 minutes later, police received a call reporting that the body of a man was floating in the Sumida River in Chuo Ward, about two kilometers away. Police said they identified the 76-year-old man as being the husband of the woman lying face up on the bed. Police said it appeared she had been dead for several hours, and added there were no external injuries on her body.
Police said their investigation showed the man rode a bike from the house, called police from a pay phone and then jumped into the river.

No external injuries - he may have drugged her, or he let her die through not feeding her.
Terribly sad.

That's what they said about the seven-year-old girl found dead in a river last week. Doesn't mean that she wasn't MURDERED though does it!!

Strange message to the man found floating in the Sumida River
Disillusioned
Yeah, there's nothing to say she was murdered, so far, unless details are being withheld by the police, but that would never happen in Japan, would it? :P

I don’t know, Disillusioned. I would think the call to police claiming murder, with the woman being dead, would be at least an indication. If she had died of natural causes, and the man was distraught, I don't see why he would have claimed to have killed her. He might have more reasonably said instead that he couldn't go on without her.

Most likely a terminal illness issue. Wife pleaded to die peacefully in bed. Husband later joined her. RIP.

Obviously it's for those who are still alive and considering doing the same thing

This is the wrong way around. If you murder someone then you may have the decency to punish yourself, if you are Japanese .
