Man punches Don Quijote employee after being asked not to bring his dog into store

Police in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of assault after he punched a 24-year-old female employee of discount store Don Quijote, who asked him not to bring his pet dog into the store.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:10 a.m. Thursday. Fuji TV reported that the man, Masatoshi Fujita, came into the store near Gyotoku Station, and was asked by the cashier to leave his pet outside. Police said that Fujita got angry and punched the woman in the face. He was quoted by police as saying his dog was on a leash and he was upset at being told by the store employee not to bring the animal inside with him.

Don Quijote prohibits any pets except guide dogs in its stores.

Like Mark Twain supposedly said, "The more I see of my fellow man, the better I like dogs."

What despicable cowardice, for which there'll be damn all sanction.

Spoiled brats everywhere. omg but 59 years.... try to imagine the kind of actions this individual has been taking during his whole life. Educate your children to love and respect everyone. Make this world a bit more livable.

Sound like he might need a leash.

He's like a little child that doesn't like being told the rules. I have met some over 50s with bad attitudes and think they know better than anyone younger than them, especially if they are 20 somethings.

Do you know what's worse in these cases in this country? If I was there I wouldn't control the urge to teach the guy a very good lesson, only to bring problems to myself, sometimes the justice system in Japan fails in terms of common-sense, creates an apathetic, coward nation, "根性無しの日本人”. No wonder everybody just stood watching, frozen.

Crazy man must have a long rap sheet.

God, I hope Japan doesn't go like the US and start allowing pets everywhere, especially in the guise of "service animals". Entitled idiots like this guy should be kicked in the goolies. Punching a 24 year old FEMALE employee? Takes a lot of guts.

Jees, these grandpa crimes are getting old

Does the moron realise that in all likelihood his dog will now be permanently separated from him and he might be put in jail? I hope he is.

Typical dog owner.

"Police said that Fujita, a '59-year-old' got angry and punched the woman in the face." Ouch.....Wha old dusty's mammy and pappy didn't teach him anger management.

Poor dog - he musta been pretty embarrassed. Advice for the pup: Next time, keep your owner tied up outside and do the shopping yourself.

A lot of questionable characters hanging out at Don Quijote late at night. Last week I dropped in after midnight and saw a dyed yellow hair family. The newborn baby had yellow hair too.

Sometimes you wish you could have been there just to give this guy a taste of his own medicine.

Isn't it Don Quixote?

2 ( +2 / -1 )

Yes, they're being quixotic...

No, leave your dog at home so they are subjected to moron strangers or worse, stolen. No one should ever leave their dog tied up outside a shop. Well, really, ever tied up.

God, I hope Japan doesn't go like the US and start allowing pets everywhere, especially in the guise of "service animals". I'd much prefer well behaved dogs to some of the kids I see in shops. Many home centres allow dogs these days as they have grooming areas in. Or perhaps its because they don't want dogs left in cars or tied up outside. Either way, I'm a supporter. Even without my dogs, I'll visit dogs cafes. Fewer kids running around screaming and most dogs are pretty well behaved.

No objection to seeing eye dogs, but others? Like you said, leave them at home.

It's a sad new trend in the US that people can get bogus certificates and letters from therapists to designate their pets as "emotional support animals", then take them wherever they want. HUGE difference between a trained animal and a pet with a selfish owner.

Contemplate the early childhood learning milieu 59 years ago. And then the attitudes prevalent in role model adults present in the 50's who in turn had their mind set fashioned by those born 20 or more years before. Cultural change takes time unfortunately.

I am in that age group and had the learning milieu. I don't go around punching people. Don't blame his childhood for his abhorrent behaviour today

Masatoshi Fujita....what a complete failure at being part of our society.

He needs to be on a leash... a short one at that.

** People with dogs are alot like smokers...totally selfish and inconsiderate of other people which is why they can relate to dogs better than humans.....if only the dog could speak.....bet he would give this obnoxious owner an earful!

Yes, because dogs cause cancer, are a drain on the health care system and stink. I might give you the last one for dogs that have owners that dogs bathe their dogs properly.

Dogs are well known to reduce stress and create relaxing environments - if trained properly. Sadly not all are. People also suffer from allergies. I certainly don't condone violence of any sort and this guy is a jerk, but I don't see why dogs are banned in many places while small children are allowed to run feral. Many places in Europe have it right. Dogs are welcome in pubs and restaurants if they are UNDER the table. Indeed the store in question is sly but birth America and Japan are very uptight about dogs. And frankly, both treat dogs (and cats) questionably when it comes to animal welfare.

Smokers cost health systems less than non-smokers, as they die earlier, therefore not costing the expensive end of life care for those who live to old ages.

I hope the poor lady got the right medical attention, may be he ought to pay for that medical treatment as he caused it!! and as for the dog, (top tip of the week) get your self a new owner, this ones not responsible.

In USA, houseowners can't leave dogs outside of fence. Correcting Attila.dogs attack cats and people on sidewalks... also, no stores allow pets inside. Unlike zjapan, cops are trained to kill people. .

If the dog was small dog and then shop should allow owner to carry the dog when they owner was shopping. Some peoples treat dog as their own child. Some owners can't leave their dog outside because they worry about stolen their dog by someone. In France, the shop allows small dog carry by owner when owner was shopping in their store.

Better to have a cat-no problem with shopping at all!

Best check your reading skills, the point was "people with dogs" are similar to "people who smoke". Your false straw man correlation of "dogs cause cancer" demonstrates your irrationality. Dogs should be not be permitted in any of the places you mention as you are discriminating against other animals....what about pet snakes, gerbils, horses, cats, etc. Don't they have rights, or does your selective reasoning divide up the animals to some are more equal than others...how Orwellian!

I don't see why dogs are banned in many places while small children are allowed to run feral.

Both I and my daughter have been bitten by dogs, on separate occasions. In the case of my daughter, the dog was even on a leash.

On the other hand, neither of us has ever been bitten by a child, feral or not.

Donny Q's is not so cheap in many departments.

Was it a tiny rat dog or a huge one?

.Many stores protect their merchandises from any sizes of dogs.
